Curation Picks: The Virginia Valley - Mercenario (Nuclear Digital Transistor Remix)

Released on Inner Shah Recordings, the remix pairs two Colombian projects as Nuclear Digital Transistor drags The Virginia Valley’s track “Mercenario” deeper into the night. Still unhurried, it now moves with a heavier pulse, threaded by an arpeggiated lead, acid synth lines, and flashes of the original guitar cutting through the mix.

The lyrics drift through the hypnotic darkness in fragments: “el fierro a empuñar” (“the iron to be wielded”), “confundido a quemarlo todo ya” (“confused, ready to burn it all down”), “en esta tierra de cristal” (“on this land of glass”). Then the armor cracks: “Como un niño al rezar / creo el credo de mamá” (“Like a child when he prays / I believe in my mother’s creed”), followed by the question “¿Cuándo llegará el perdón?” (“When will forgiveness come?”). Somewhere between the weapon, the prayer, and the glass beneath his feet, the mercenary starts to feel less like a character and more like a symptom, moving through territory that feels uncomfortably familiar.
