Italy's eclectic dance floor maven Ilario Alicante brings us a potent selection of his closely held crowd movers – and the stories behind them – for Beatport's Playlist of the Week.

Greetings! Ilario Alicante here. This week’s playlist is a journey through my current sound – a blend of personal gems, timeless influences and future dance floor weapons. From reworks of historic tracks to exclusive releases on my label, from emotional closers to raw peak-time groovers, this selection reflects exactly what I’m playing tight now and why. You’ll find a special remix story that started as a demo and became official, a nod to one of the tracks that shaped my entire career and music from artists I truly believe are helping define the future of the scene.

David Penn, Kadoc, Crusy - The Night Train (Ilario Alicante Remix) [Altra Moda]

My remix of "The Night Train" – a historic track. One day, that old organ groove popped back into my head after years of playing it out. I decided to rework it and bring it into 2025, reshaping it for today’s dance floors. Really happy with how it turned out.

Antss - Can't Right Now [Sound D’Elite]

The moment Antss sent me this track and that bassline kicked in; I knew it – this was going to be the track of the summer. I started playing it right away, then passed it on to some of my colleagues... and from there, it just took off. Now everyone’s playing it – Marco Carola drops it in every set. I’ve had it in my bag for months and it absolutely destroys every time. The groove is unique – fresh, with that UK Garage twist that sets it apart from the usual stuff. Brilliant tune.

White Off - All Ma Ladies [Sound D’Elite]

White Off is probably one of the most important artists on my label. He’s shaping the sound of the new minimal scene with his driving grooves and a truly unique style. You can recognize a White Off track within the first four bars – unmistakable.

Yaya – Respect [Sound D’Elite]

This is the latest release from Yaya – a longtime friend I met in Ibiza years ago, one of the very first when I got there. He sent me a few tracks; I loved them instantly and decided to release them on my label. It’s that kind of stylish tech house groove that never fails.

Tiger Tripes – Rockin [Rekids]

Rekids is one of my favourite labels – always putting out top-quality music. This release by Tiger Stripes fits perfectly in my sets: driving, high-quality groove and a bassline that really hits hard. Pure fire.

Ferra Black - Echoes [Sound D’Elite]

Another one from my label – it dropped a few months ago, but I still play it in every single set. It’s the perfect kind of groove for me: driving yet funky, with a cool vocal sample. This is exactly the kind of groovy track I rely on in my sets… and I’ll keep playing it for a long time.

Radio Slave, Nathalie Duchene - We Are Youth [Rekids]

This one’s coming out on Radio Slave’s label, Rekids. What really got me is the piano line and the vocal – they hit just right. If you drop this at the right moment during a closing set, it can create an absolutely stunning atmosphere.

Josh Baker, Omar+ - Back It Up (James Poole Remix) [Baker's Dozen]

There’s a special story behind this one. I received this demo from James Poole on Trackstack – a rework of the original – and I instantly loved it. I played it in Milan and the crowd reaction was insane. Then I dropped it at Sunwaves and in other clubs, and eventually sent it to Josh Baker, the original artist. I told him I’d received this remix and thought it was really solid. After hearing it, Josh decided to release it as an official remix. Super happy for the guy – what started as a demo edit turned into an official release.

Mr. G - In Gratitude (New Moon Mix) [Phoenix G]

To me, this is one of the best tracks ever made by Mr. G. It’s elegant yet incredibly effective – a record I’ve played and will keep playing for a long time. I won’t lie… in the right moment, the combination of the synths, the bassline, and the vocal actually moved me. It’s one of those rare tracks that can truly touch you.

James Holden - 10101 [Border Community]

No chart of mine would ever feel complete without one of my all-time favourite tracks – emotionally, personally, and technically. This record by James Holden, released many years ago, played a huge role in shaping my background and career. It came from a time when Border Community was at the forefront of the scene, and it soundtracked countless unforgettable moments for me. A truly timeless piece I could never leave out.
