Ahead of his performance at Scotland's Terminal V Festival, the UK's exalted DJ/selector Fish56Octagon brings us a high-powered selection of scrantz and hard techno gems for Beatport's Playlist of the Week.

Hi, I’m Fish56Octagon. I love so many different styles of dance music and play at different types of events, but this one is inspired by the harder side of techno, which is what I’ll be playing at Teminal V Festival in Edinburgh. I’ve picked an eclectic range of tracks new and old from hard tech to scrantz, all of these tracks have featured in my sets over the last 12 months. Enjoy!

Buchecha - Strangers [Kube Records]

Love the metallic heavy sounds in this track, it’s just a solid scrantz banger that has several breaks, buildups and drops for a pumping dance floor experience!

Roentgen Limiter - Do It! [Rave Alert]

This track is all about the bass, it’s powerful like it could punch a hole through a wall or something, got a slight old school hardcore vibe to it which I love too and messes about before the drop which builds tension nicely.

Sotek - The End Of The World [Kube Records]

Just a very heavy track with scrantzy style drum-track and sounds. Dance floor weapon, nuff said!

Xavier - Drop it or Go Home [Kube Records]

This is an interesting one as it has more musical content in it than the typical hard tech track, based around a arpeggiated synth in the middle that has clever key-changes. Breaks up the sea of very dark tracks I play nicely.

Activator - The House Of Pain (2k24 Rework) [Infamia Records]

Probably my favorite hard tech track. Lulls you in to a false sense of security before unleashing a really intense furious main section that then changes for the second drop. Been played quite a bit now but with good reason.

V.O.Y - Rave Control [Sonaxx Records]

V.O.Y has nails the art of minimal tracks that have enough going on to carry them, catchy sounds and riffs that hook you in but without the distraction or novelty of a complex arrangement. Just solid, solid tracks.

Sant, KlangKuenstler - Toter Schmetterling [OUTWORLD]

This is very different to the others on the list. Still a hard track with the typical distorted drum track, but much deeper in terms of melodic content and musical progression, and another welcome break from the hard and dark nature of this genre in a set.

Jan Fleck - Going Raw [Animasola Records]

Love this oldie. Two big buildups with heavy heavy chaos on the drops. Nice linear feel to the arrangement nothing too crazy just a solid banger.

DJ Hammond - Another Great Day (SveTec Remix) [Audiocode]

My favorite scrantz track, the original by Hammond is cool too but SveTec on the remix makes it harder, very heavy but quite stripped out. The buildup is sick for a 13 year old track, it still works really well.

Ocram - The Punisher (SveTec Remix) [Cannibal Society]

SveTec on the remix again, this track has a sick buildup and drops with furious energy!

PRMIDV - R.A.V.E. (Pro Mix) [LW Recordings]

One of my fave hard tech tracks, it has it all, with a nice little trick on the drop too. I’ve played this on the main stage of the largest festival in Australia and it went off!

Robert Natus - To The Beat [Schlachthof]

I love getting out the early stuff and seeing if I can make it stand up with the newer sounds. This was a weird track when it was new and the bass on it is just different.
