To celebrate the release of her 'City Of Clowns' album, the incendiary French-Canadian artist Marie Davidson brings us a delightfully riotous selection of "Clown Hits" for Beatport's Playlist of the Week.

My name is Marie Davidson, I’m from Montreal and I have been making electronic music for a while now. I’m mostly known for my drum programming and the use of my own voice, mostly spoken, sometimes sung or shouted. I’m also into using synthesizers, rather sequenced than hand played. I like my tracks punchy, sweaty and fun. I try to surprise people with what I have to say, keep them reflecting and entertained at the same time. I choose the words for their meaning as much as their rhythm.

When it comes to DJing, I look for tracks that have a strong rhythm section, high energy level and either a vocal hook or good vocal sampling. Here’s some examples of what I like to play or produce.

Marie Davidson's fifth studio album City Of Clowns is out now via DEEWEE. Buy it on Beatport.

Marie Davidson - Fun Times [DEEWEE]

"Fun Times" is my take on Italo-influenced club music, with a touch of pop in the chorus. I wanted to make something energetic while speaking about some of my personal life choices. The track doesn’t intend to be serious, I’m joking with the lyrics from start to finish. It also the only song of City Of Clowns composed in French, my mother tongue.

Marie Davidson - Demolition [DEEWEE]

Politics & sex for you to enjoy.

Decius - Birth Of A Smirk [The Leaf Label]

Those people sound very good and sweaty. I especially love the vocals on this one.

DEBASEMENT - FTDJ (Thank God) [In Real Life Music]

Powerful and exciting duo from Los Angeles offering silly club track tracks.

Handbraekes - All Nite Long [Ed Banger Records]

What a banger. Very useful.

Karassimeon - Midnight Rave [RITMO FATALE]

Hard not to play this track once you have it on your key. Lights up the party anywhere at any time.

Peder Mannerfelt - The Confidence Of Ignorance [Peder Mannerfelt Produktion]

I love all of his productions, especially the weirdest examples, like this tracks from his album Controlling Body

Hardstyle Masterz - Age Of Reverse Bass (Technoboy’s Rude Mix) [Starlight Records]

This is a good for heating up the dance floor at the beginning of a set.

Technoboy, TNT, Tuneboy - Reverse The Bass [Q-dance Records]

Simply a masterpiece.

WTCHCRFT - SHAKE IT [Sorry Records]

For sure the track I’ve played the most over the last two years, works every time. It mixes very well with a track of mine called "Work It" (especially the Soulwax remix). Now you know one of my DJ blends. Don’t mind the BPM!

DJ Gigola - Papi

Great production and sensual vocals. I like the simplicity and the efficiency, all hitting you at the same time with a touch of nostalgia.
