Playlist of the Week: Jubilee

Jubilee Beatport Playlist of the Week
Jubilee
Feb 4, 2025
Kicking off her NYC-based Magic City label's ten-year anniversary celebrations, South Florida native Jubilee hits us with some classic and crucial cuts of Miami Bass, Florida Breaks, '90s Rave, and beyond for Beatport's Playlist of the Week.

I don't even know what defines "Florida Breaks," to be honest. I just know that I lived in Florida and went to raves, and these were the songs I heard in my favorite DJ's sets and remember. A lot of my favorite stuff is nowhere on streaming or music sites. I am lucky that I have vinyl rips of a lot of it, but some of the classics are here. I loved most of these songs before I even thought DJing was a possibility. They were mostly on mixtapes that I listened to while driving my car to the rave. Everything I have ever done has come from this sound. My Magic City label, my music, and all of my DJing are inspired by this.

Jubilee's fresh and ballistic two-tracker, Jump Start, is out now via Magic City. Buy it on Beatport.

Soul Oddity - DJ Tokyo [Astralwerks]

In my top ten songs of all time. Changed my life. I recently told Romulo of Soul Oddity that I considered this song Florida Breaks and he seemed surprised. But I was on the dance floor way more than him. It was in the DJ sets. A lot of them. Just not sure if it would be breaks?

Mike & Charlie - I Get Live [Drehscheibe]

This is such a late-night jam. Especially the Headbanger Boogie version with the Method Man "How High" sample. Definitely constantly on rotation over here.

Dynamix II - Ignition [Dynamix II Records]

Anyone who knows me knows that I believe that Dynamix II is the blueprint. I don't even think I would have started making music if I had never heard them.

Rabbit in the Moon - Possesion (Sunsha Remix) [Underground Collective Records]

Rabbit in the Moon are Florida hometown heroes. They have insane remixes for days. This Sarah McLaughlin remix was HUGE when I was younger. I still play it to this day. It's such a great late-night curveball that I will forever be obsessed with.

Merlyn - Bring Your Love [ZYX]

I love this song because it's older than most of the people in the club when I play it, but it still sounds brand new. It held up this entire time.

DJ Laz - Red Alert [StreetBeat Records]

The GOAT of all songs. If you know you know. If you are from South Florida and you do not know this song, then you didn't listen to the radio or go outside. Definitely not Florida breaks, but I am putting it in this chart.

Anthony Rother - Hydrocarbon [Source Artists]

Every DJ in Florida was obsessed with Anthony Rother, and why wouldn't they be? Listen to him! Every time he comes to NYC, I am booked to DJ another gig and cannot go. ONE DAY, it will happen, and when I see him play, I'll feel like I am home.

Mix Factory - Take Me Away [ZYX]

Big tune that would bring on the drama late at night. It kinda made me feel like the world was ending. I probably should bring this one back regularly.

Uberzone - Botz [Northern Exposure]

One thing about me is I really love Uberzone. I think this song was the one I heard the most at the raves. One day, Uberzone headlining a Magic City show will happen. Manifesting this.

K5 - Red Alert [Robbins Entertainment]

This song is basically the musical version of South Beach in the '90s. I can't explain it. It just is. I live for the day when the party is dramatic enough to drop K5.
