Playlist of the Week: Shygirl

Shygirl (Artist)
Feb 14, 2024
The revered English DJ, rapper, singer, songwriter, and label head Shygirl celebrates the arrival of her new Club Shy EP with some affectionate dance floor selects for Beatport’s Playlist of the Week.
Hey, this is Shygirl. My new Club Shy EP is a love letter to the nightlife I grew up around and that continues to inspire me. Dance music, for me, is at my core, and I really feel like it’s the one thing that you can always return to. It’s the only time when you can talk about a breakup or missing someone and still be having fun, losing yourself in wild abandon on the dance floor. These tracks reflect that club mood, a selection of some of my favorites for the dance floor, now, always, and forever. Enjoy!
Love, Shy (xoxox)
Eliza Rose, Martinez Brothers – Pleasure Peak [Rosebud Recordings]
This one really reminds me of Ibiza, especially playing it at DC 10 over the summer, which was a surreal, full-circle moment as it was the first club I ever went to on the island.
Shygirl, SG Lewis – mr useless [Because Music]
The perfect taste of club shy!
Shygirl – thicc [Because Music]
This was made around the same time as some of the Nymph tracks but I decided to hold it back. I enjoyed teasing this one at festivals and shows while still in demo mode for over a year with the idea of somehow infusing the energy of the crowd into this final version of the song – “thicc” is fun and carefree and definitely a tease – all the classic traits of club shy infused into one track.
Mason, Princes Superstar – Perfect (Exceeder) [Armada Music]
This is my absolute favourite. A staple in my DJ sets, always, forever.
Layo & Bushwacka – Love Story [XL Recordings]
Who doesn’t want a love story? I’m always in love. I love hard and fast. I’m always thinking about someone or I’m in love with myself. This is the perfect song for that.
Shygirl, Boys Noize – tell me [Because Music]
I was writing a love song, and it was just words. I met up with Boys Noize, and he took hold of it, changed the energy, and completely transformed it. He’s such an upbeat character, and I think you can hear that in the song.
Basement Jaxx – Romeo [XL Recordings]
Influential, iconic.
Florentino, Shygirl – Pressure [XL Recordings]
Thank you, Florentino, for bringing me into your world.
VTSS, Boys Noize – Steady Pace [Big Beat Records]
I love the energy of this one; it’s so sexy. I played B2B with VTSS last year, and it was as perfect as you can imagine it would be.
Rochelle Jordan – Love You Good [Young Art Records]
This is my end-of-nighter, the perfect way to close things out at club shy.
