Playlist of the Week: Ma Sha
Ma Sha
Nov 20, 2024
The esteemed NYC-based DJ/producer and Kindergarten Records boss Ma Sha presents a selection of boisterous, sinuous tracks from the vanguard of New York City's thriving club music community.
Hi everyone!
I’m Ma Sha, a New York-based DJ, producer, and founder of Kindergarten Records. Alongside running the label, I host a monthly residency on The Lot Radio and have released music on Steel City Dance Discs, TraTraTrax, and Nervous Horizon.
I created this playlist to highlight the incredible community of New York producers in the bass scene who I truly admire. Over the last few years, the volume of standout releases coming out of this city has been amazing, and I feel so grateful to be a part of this community.

Doctor Jeep - Macumba [TraTraTrax]
Doctor Jeep has been consistently dropping bangers for as long as I can remember. It’s inspiring to see how many labels and communities he’s connected with over the years, and his recent release on TraTraTrax feels like a perfect fit. This EP was a staple in all my sets this past summer.
E Wata - U D S2S [Slink]
The Slink crew — K Wata, Enayet, rrao, and Simisea — are some of the most influential people on my musical journey. Their commitment to the community and the mind-boggling releases they put out, alongside their special events, show just how much time and love goes into their work. This release perfectly captures that vibe, with new layers to uncover each time you listen.
Sister Zo - Eeny Meeny [Fever AM]
Sister Zo’s productions have such a distinct spirit. She’s the type of artist we can all learn from when it comes to sculpting a unique sound. Her attention to detail and the dynamic flow in her tracks are truly impressive.
Benbo & Ovid - $500 Chips [Loosee]
These are good friends of mine who we first connected years ago through our shared love for hard drum. Their solo work is in my regular rotation, but this release really stands out; they bring out the best in each other musically, with super fun grooves and bold percussion.
No Sir - Voyeur [Faux Poly]
A member of The Level collective, No Sir has consistently put out captivating, diverse tracks with cohesive storytelling and sound design that’s completely their own. I love playing their tracks both in my sets and just listening to them at home.
Laenz - Echoes Until [Woozy]
Laenz has been a part of this community for a long time, and it’s been inspiring to follow their journey. Their recent EP on Woozy stands out as a highlight for me — a beautiful narrative across five tracks and an incredible Untold remix.
JIALING - DIE [Nasty Enterprises]
JIALING’s sonic range is huge, yet there’s a powerful core energy that ties everything together into her own sonic universe. Her recent tracks on Classico have been essential in my sets this year as well.
VIIAAN - How To Heal [Sumac]
VIIAAN's gentle touch is evident in both their productions and their events (like Ambient Babies, where DJs play beautiful ambient music while everyone sits around together). Their latest album on DJ Plead’s label showcases that same delicate attention to detail.
Baalti - Spilling [all my thoughts]
NYC got lucky when Baalti recently moved here — they’re definitely one of the best duos out there. The bright, bold energy in their tracks shines on any dance floor, and I love how their sound energy fills up the room whenever I play them.
Joey - In For a Dime [Elicit Records]
Joey’s productions have a depth that really pulls you in, and his EP on Elicit Records is no exception. I’ve been a fan of his music for a while, but this release stands out for me from the very first to the last track.
Sobolik - Signal [Kindergarten]
Of course, I have to mention my friends who inspired me to start the label! This compilation is one of the best ways to experience the sound of everyone on the label, featuring most of our artists together in one release.
Ayesha - Deep In The Jungle (Ayesha's Drums Are Sex Dub) [Paryìa]
When it comes to recognizing a producer’s touch from the very first seconds, it’s all about Ayesha. Her unique signature is bold and unmistakable, leaving its mark on everything she creates — whether it’s a driving percussive techno track or a sexy groove like this one.
