Playlist of the Week: Madam X
Ahead of the release of her debut EP, Kaizen label head Madam X delivers "a recipe of wobbly basslines, broken techno, and dirty dubstep" for Beatport's Playlist of the Week.
Madam X here, currently writing to you from sunny LA and touring the US. I'm heading to Chicago, NYC, and Denver this weekend and wanted to share a bunch of tunes that I’ve been rinsing heavily in my club sets.
Lots to look forward to in the left-field bass meets techno, crossover-universe, as well as my debut Homecoming EP landing Oct 24th on my KAIZEN record label! (I’ve included the tunes in my chart) with features from Cartridge, Dj JM, Andy Martin and Doctor Jeep on my record, each track from the EP has a completely different element of rave music and influences in there and I’m so grateful to you guys for supporting it!
From November I’ll be celebrating 10 years of KAIZEN with a regional tour up and down the UK and then heading to Australia in the New Year for another juggernaut tour.
Enjoy the chart!
Madam X's debut Homecoming EP drops on October 24th via Kaizen. Buy it on Beatport.

Madam X, Cartridge - Hoodlum FC [Kaizen]
Obviously had to kick things off with a plug on my debut release! "Hoodlum FC" is a hoods-up, heads-down 130 Dubstep weapon with equal parts soul and stank-face. Produced by myself and KAIZEN alumnus Cartridge, it’s been so cool to see how other DJ’s have been incorporating it in their sets. I literally screamed when I witnessed D Bridge opening his Phonox set with it the other night! Full circle moment
Pinch, Neffa T x Trim - Wha Happen [Tectonic]
An absolutely outrageous collab from three titans in UK bass music. It’s the perfect mix of dirty dubstep, grime and techno, with Pinch’s signature laser-like synths and teases of 4x4 playing with Trim’s husky, dulcet tones. Armed with Neffa’s ‘take no prisoners’ mixing style, the tune is constantly evolving in energy, pressure and filth.
Madam X & DJ JM - Copacabathens [Kaizen]
The second single from my debut 'Homecoming' EP with DJ JM. Available now! I loved putting this one together so much. The title nods to our combined locations of Copenhagen and Athens aka “COPA-cab-ATHENS, and it’s such a fun track to play out! I love seeing the look on people’s faces when the gnarly lead bassline kicks in on the dance floor!
Bianca Oblivion - Lavish (feat. Redders) [Hard Recs]
My girl Bianca Oblivion is destroying the scene right now. Everything she touches is just pure magic. High energy drums, sirens and synthesisers, this one is pure festival artillery and Redders rides the groove so perfectly.
Sir Hiss - Feedback [Obligated Records]
I classify this kind of tune as the “Holy Fuck” plot twist moment on the dance floor. When you’ve been bopping along to a DJ for the first 1/2 hr, catching a ride and feeling pretty secure about their direction when out of nowhere, they drop a curveball that deviates from the pattern, and gives space for new music. This tune really does that and it’s super different to Sir Hiss’ usual dubstep and grime productions. Really cool to see him experimenting in this rolling techno sphere.
Doctor Jeep - Mecha [TraTraTrax]
The talented, versatile stylings of the Doctor. Continually pushing boundaries with his craft. I love how André pays homage to his Latin-American roots here with that “ai-ai-ai” Baile funk sample, but keeps it ravey and refreshing, with stabby synths and energising techno. He’s constantly evolving, currently back at school, learning how to incorporate and build interactive new media into his art, it feels like he can do just about anything he puts his mind to. Watch this space for an upcoming KAIZEN announcement.
Andy Martin - El Llano en Llamas [Diaspora Echoes]
Andy Martin is a master at work. I’ve seen it firsthand when I spent a week at his fucking around making cool techno with a Nintendo Switch in his hometown of Guadalajara. This one’s really beautiful. Emotional, raw, deep techno.
RHYW - Drool [Fever AM]
Described as an ‘underwater octopus mutant romance,’ the description is pretty dead on. It’s mutant techno in a fairy tale, drooling with cerebral vocal chops and swinging pressure. The boundaries are forever changing.
Obaké, Pluralist - Siren [Typeless Records]
I can’t lie; I’ve been dropping this tune in every set recently. It just goes off. Abrasive driving bassline riding a broken beat groove paired with a filthy sub, it’s a DJ dream.
Zeds Dead, Killa P, Moody Good - Mad Ting [Deadbeats]
Nasty dubstep tune with some proper nostalgic flavour in there. Killa P’s signature patois never get old, to be honest. I also love the space in the tune. The interlude kind of slaps.
