Playlist of the Week: Gryffin
Gryffin
Aug 7, 2024
Japanese-American DJ/producer and instrumentalist Gryffin digs in with some special track selections that helped inform the vibe of his latest 'PULSE' album for Beatport's Playlist of the Week.
My third album, PULSE, is a tribute to all of the electronic influences that turned me into the artist I am today. It’s the most energetic and cohesive body of work I’ve ever put out. I definitely pushed myself outside of my comfort zone as an artist and delivered something that brought a whole new perspective to my style of music. I experimented with a bunch of different subgenres within dance music, like techno and drum 'n' bass. This album is a testament to dance music culture and highlights how versatile this genre is. This playlist helps showcase some of the vibes that PULSE is about.

John Summit, SubFocus - Go Back (feat. Julia Church) [Experts Only]
One of the more unique tracks I can remember from this past year. I love how the first half of the record has the classic Summit house sound and then the second half of the record explodes into drum 'n' bass euphoria from Sub Focus. Really great vocal from Julia Church as well, she's so fantastic she's the next big thing.
Gryffin - Magic (YDG Remix) [Gryffin]
YDG's one of my favorite young producers out there at the moment, and he crushed this remix of "Magic." As always he spins new life into the track with his fusion of dubstep and trap in a fresh way that feels amazing. Look out for this guy in the future in the dub scene.
Armin van Buren, Gryffin - What Took You So Long [Armada Music]
Armin is an absolute legend, and it was truly an honor getting to work with him on Pulse. This was maybe my favorite session in the past few years. We came into the session with a complete blank slate. Neither of us had tracks we planned to share with each other. We just decided to write a record from scratch on the guitar and then produce it fully for the electronic world. Ten hours later, this song was born. I am very proud of this track.
Disclosure - She's Gone, Dance On [Disorder]
Disclosure have always been one of my all time favorite groups, and I probably have listened to their Settle album hundreds of times. They were super inspiring to me when I first started making Gryfifn music, and this record blew me away. Fresh yet nostalgic, this record has an unmatched summer energy and vibe and I can't help smile when listening to this one.
IsoXo - how2fly [88rising]
I have been a fan of IsoXo for quite some time, and this was my favorite track from his album. It is super high energy and melodic, and it has been a favorite to use in my sets for a while.
Romy, Fred again.. - Strong [Young]
I don't think anyone's had a bigger couple of years than Fred, but I think it's so deserved. He's so talented as a producer and performer, so I have a lot of respect for him. I have loved Romy's voice so much since her early days in The XX, and I love the trance undertones in this record. It has a huge vibe.
RÜFÜS DU SOL - Music is Better [Rose Avenue]
I always love it when the RÜFÜS guys are back on the scene, and their latest single delivers on the summer vibes. It's a little more laid-back than their previous album, but it's a huge vibe record, and it always feels good putting it on.
Adam Port, Stryv, Keinemusik - Move (feat. Malachiii) [Keinemusik]
Afro house is finally having its moment. It's been bubbling for a lot time, but this is the record that sends the genre through the stratosphere and it's a great thing for electronic music. Keinemusik continues to crush it and I'm very excited this record's having the moment it is. Well deserved.
Dom Dolla - Saving Up [Three Six Zero Recordings]
Dom has been on fire lately, and this was an unexpected one from him, but I love it. It's a nice, feel-good record with a thumping bass to keep the clubby influences strong. A great tune from Dom.
Skrillex, Hamdi, Taichu - Push (feat. OFFAIAH) [OWSLA]
Skrillex is consistently the producer I'm always blown away by. His versatility and ability to produce so many types of genres and still make it his own is unmatched. Hamdi has also been on my radar for the past few years as well, and this collab is great because you can really hear both influences on it. Really dope track.
