Drawing from her West African roots, the London-based DJ and producer shines a light on the artists defining the British capital's Afro House and 3-Step sound.

Mz Orstin is Ghanaian born, London based DJ, curator, and tastemaker at the forefront of Afro House, Afro Tech, 3-Step and global electronic sounds. Drawing inspiration from her journeys through London, Ghana, and Kenya, she is known for creating deep rhythmic experiences and storytelling through mixes and curating culture driven events that connect music, movement and community.

After recently relocating to the UK, Mz Orstin immersed herself into London's Afro electronic underground, tapping directly into the city's rising generation of producers. Her Beatport chart serves as a carefully curated showcase of the London-based African talent that has been actively driving and reshaping the global Afro House movement.

I’ve admired Charisse C from afar since my days in Ghana, so having this record in my selection feels particularly special. “Come To Me (My Love)” showcases the creative connection between Charisse C, Khandasi and TAPIWA, with a beautifully constructed groove, detailed percussion and atmospheric layers that make the record feel soulful, intentional and built for the dance floor.

Merton T ft. Larizzile – Little Things [Larah Records]

“Little Things” caught my attention because of its organic feel and the way the production creates a beautiful sense of space and movement. It represents the kind of Afro electronic sound I love- deep, soulful and understated, but still capable of taking you somewhere.

Kitty Amor – Kairos [Mahaba]

“Kairos” stands out to me for its intricate percussive programming, syncopated rhythmic patterns and controlled low end. I particularly enjoy how the arrangement introduces and strips back elements gradually, creating tension and release while keeping the groove locked throughout.

Papa Wemba, Karen Nyame KG – M'Fono Yami [Fontana]

I chose “M'Fono Yami” because I love how Karen Nyame KG blends deep Afro House rhythms with her own soulful identity. The driving percussion, warm low-end and layered grooves create a hypnotic energy, while the arrangement allows each element to breathe and evolve naturally.

Rosey Gold & Lordkes – Better Wait [Kunye Records]

“Better Wait” caught my attention with its stripped back, groove led approach and beautifully controlled use of space. I love the interplay between the deep low end, intricate percussion and atmospheric textures. It gives the track that hypnotic, late night quality that I look for in Afro House.
