Playlist of the Week: INVT

Cameron Holbrook
INVT have spent years building their own lane instead of waiting for one to open. Childhood best friends Luca Medici and Delbert Perez first shaped the project in Miami, pulling from the city’s bass, Latin, Caribbean, dub, rap, rave, and club music DNA until their sound became just as restless as the place that made them. Now based in Los Angeles, the duo still carry that South Florida charge in everything they do, from their swung drums and warped low-end to the handmade visual world around their music and clothing.
Following the release of their lean, drum-loaded club cut “FANTASY DUB” on Tempa, INVT has now released their new album, 8 AM Swim – a 10-track LP which pushes that language further, folding garage, tech house, Miami bass, dub, Latin percussion, and early-2000s funky techno into something loose, trippy, and unmistakably theirs. For their Playlist of the Week, INVT dig into the tracks that keep that universe moving, connecting deep rollers, percussive club tools, dubbed-out textures, and a few of their own sun-up weapons.
Speaking about their Playlist and fresh album, INVT told Beatportal:
Digging for music has always been a huge part of how we find inspiration to make records. A lot of the energy behind 8 AM Swim came from late nights DJing, early mornings in the studio, and constantly finding tracks that blurred the line between tech house, electro, garage, Miami bass, dub, and deeper groove-led dance music. This playlist is a snapshot of the sounds that inspired the album, alongside a few tracks from the album itself. Growing up in Miami we were exposed to a lot of different styles of music.
From Miami bass in school gyms, Salsa & Merengue at the family house parties, Bachata being blasted on the beach, to sweaty raves all over South Florida. As teenagers we were also huge fans of UK genres like jungle and dubstep. We love to make songs that can be played at a daytime party or in the middle of the night at a club. Expect swung drums, dubbed-out textures, rolling basslines, percussive grooves, and tracks we’ve made from our jam videos.
INVT's new album 8 AM Swim is out now.

One of the first tracks we made for 8 AM Swim and the song that really laid the foundation for the album. Deep filtering pads, dubbed-out textures, and a swingin’ early-2000s funky techno groove that feels like the sun starting to come up after a long night. This one has become a huge moment in our sets and jam videos already, and we’re excited to finally release it properly.
Growing up in Miami, we were surrounded by Miami Bass from an early age, dancing to it in P.E. class, and later going to Otto von Schirach shows at 14 years old. Learning from our mentor Danny Daze, who put us onto artists like Soul Oddity, really deepened our connection to that sound. “SOUTH FLORIDA EUFORIA” is our tribute to those electro roots while mixing in the molecular tightness of tech house 808 hats.
This is one of our favorite soul oddity tunes. It inspired us to make “SOUTH FLORIDA EUFORIA”. Funky lasers with tight hats on top of an electro groove. We love how this one uses weird sounds and makes them sound fresh.
For us this tune hits that sweet spot of old school house drums, chopped up vocals, and filtering deep house chord sequences. Feel good track that inspired us to keep the album playful.
Two of the greatest to ever do it. One of the many examples of tracks that focus on unique grooves, drum texture, and just feel good all the way through. Type of tune that you can play at a daytime party or in the middle of a rave. These guys are a huge reference point for us when it comes to making Tech House
Grain always hits it on the nail when it comes to finding that perfect loop. We love this track in particular because the kick has an up beat rhythm at the end of the sequence instead of fully committing to a 4/4 pattern.
Been playing this track in mostly every set. Nice textured drums with a focus on the bassline that modulates throughout the entire track. Always boosts up the energy in the crowd when we’re looking to amplify our set while keeping the groove going.
This track has that perfect balance between tribal drums and swung rhythms. He always finds a way to reach that harmony within these elements that makes his sound so infectious on the dance floor.
This track is the perfect roller. An essential tune for our opening sets or in the middle when we really have a crowd locked in. Dubbed out vocals, nice effects and percussive drums while keeping it classy.
We love playing this tune in the middle of our sets. Strong percussive groove with a euphoric pad that holds everything together. Definitely a classic in our book.
