Playlist of the Week: Steller

Steller Beatport POTW

Fast-rising bass artist Steller digs into the heavy, soulful, and mind-expanding cuts behind her new 'Shifting The Lens' EP.

Steller makes bass music with a pulse and a point of view. The fast-rising producer and DJ has been carving out her own corner of the scene with wonky low-end, psychedelic pressure, soulful flashes, and a sound that doesn’t run away from the heavier stuff. Her new Shifting The Lens EP pushes that even further, folding transformation, self-reflection, and emotional grit into tracks built to hit both the chest and the rig. It’s a project that feels less like a clean new chapter and more like someone dragging their whole sonic and limitless process into the light.

For her Beatport Playlist of the Week, Steller opens the door a little wider, sharing a stack of records that connect back to her world, her sets, and the headspace behind her latest work.

Fresh off the release of my ‘Shifting The Lens’ EP and having just started the tour, I am excited to share my ‘Playlist of The Week’ with Beatport! With May being Mental Health Awareness month, I thought I would compile a playlist of songs that elevate my mood, get me grounded, and have helped me tap in and work through some more introspective feelings and emotions.

Some of these tracks are staples in my sets, while some are just daily listening and/or all-time favorites. I’ve also included my new EP tracks, which I believe go hand in hand with the themes present. I hope this collection of songs will bring some light to your day and take you on a bit of a journey, which is always the goal. Much love!

Steller - Frames of Infinity

This song means a lot to me and it's almost like the foundation of my new EP. It explores the idea that we are infinite beings and can always choose to begin again. Writing something more melodic like this helped me process what I was going through at the time. It feels like when you reach the drop some kind of sonic awakening has happened.

GRiZ - BBFL

It’s no secret that GRiZ is a major influence and inspiration to me. I always play at least one or two of his tracks in my sets. When I first heard this it immediately went into the set. Not only is the message/lyrics so fun and uplifting the drop is very high energy. It really just makes for such a special and happy moment in the set and for my ears.

Effin - What’s In Your Heart

Even before music made us friends, I was a fan of Effin. Everything he makes is incredibly tasteful and I really love and align with his sampling and overall style. It's very soulful which is something I also put into my music. This song specifically is in my daily rotation. It’s cool because not only does this go off in a set, but I can also just vibe out to it while doing my daily stuff.

Of The Trees, Player Dave - Acadia

This is such a comfort song for me. I think I listen to it at least once a day. I found this one day when I was feeling off and it lifted my mood so quickly. It’s just such a well done song and the little melody that comes in halfway through the drop is impeccable.

Steller - Shifting The Lens

This is the title track off my most recent EP. "Shifting the Lens" has to do with changing your perspective to see things in a different and better light. I find that I have to remind myself a lot that not all negative things are bad. I can turn a loss into a lesson so that I win every time - and that is basically what shifting the lens is all about in the most basic sense. There's a lot more spiritual stuff that is involved too, but ill save that for another time!

Daily Bread - Blast Off

I'm a big fan of Daily Bread’s music and when I heard this it instantly brought a smile to my face. It blends his classic sampling with a harder hitting drop, my favorite combo honestly! This track makes me feel like I'm at a festival in the middle of summer having a ‘blast’ with my friends. Definitely a feel good tune.

Jaenga - Rocketship (Skysia Remix)

Janega is a good friend and collaborator and this is actually a song from his remix album that I worked on. When I first heard this it was really moving and took me to a place of introspection. Even what the lyrics talk about was relatable for me and I know for a lot of people. I think music is an escape in many senses, and this track really encapsulates those deeper emotions of feeling lost or misunderstood and needing an escape.

Zingara - Pink Peonies

I really can't say enough good things about Zingara - my sonic sista! I think this song in particular from her Magic Garden Ep was my favorite. You can really feel whatever she was channeling in this one. I had to include Z on my playlist because she is a master at putting her feelings into the music. I love how mystical this one is, it almost sounds like the basses are talking back to you trying to tell a story.

Steller - Eternal Love

This might be one of my favorite songs I’ve ever made. It’s a bit different from my typical style, but you can really feel the love in it. It's the perfect set ender to end on a high vibrational note. I felt so uplifted when writing this, it was really healing and I hope that translates and helps whoever listens too.

ProbCause, Parkbreezy - Poetry

This is another one in my daily rotation. It’s really just the perfect feel good vibe for any occasion. This style is one of my favorites - vibey, hip hop, funky bass. I think Prob and parkbreezy really made a masterpiece here with both their sounds complementing perfectly.

Zeds Dead - phuket sunrise

I don't even know where to begin with this one. There is something spiritual about this track and it helped pull me out of a really dark time. I think one time I listened to this on a flight for 2 hours straight. This song feels like moving through trauma and coming out on the other side, I don't really know how else to explain it, but it is one of my all time favorites. Anytime I feel like I need to work through something, this is my go to.
