Playlist of the Week: MPH

MPH
With my new album Substance dropping, I put together this playlist, a small taster into what you can typically hear at one of my peak time sets. Included are a mixture of high energy and chord heavy bangers that take you on a journey, featuring artists who I discovered at the very beginning of my career and have had a huge impact on my sound, such as Flava D. It also features tracks from the album that I have been testing out for months.
This playlist represents my style of production – each track can be listened to on the way to work but also be played at peak time on the dance floor, hope you enjoy!
MPH's latest album Substance is out now. Buy it on Beatport.
One of the tracks I’m most proud of, will always play this out and has such a singalong vibe to it. Co written with UKG legend MJ Cole. Chord heavy & soulful and just a great vibe to it
An absolute classic that always goes off live, I just love how repetitive it is but never gets boring, such an infectious bassline melody as well. This is more of a curveball I play now that comes out of nowhere but always gets a sick reaction.
A nice sample based groovy track from the album, in the non extended version this sets up the story for Substance. The album’s theme is based around someones first time going to a rave, this part of the story is when the character is just finishing work and ready to go out - heavily inspired by Human Traffic.
Anti Up can do no wrong, this is a new addition to my setlist and it absolutely pops off every time I play it out. The acid type lead of that sub just works so well and is just classic Anti Up, this will stay in my sets for the foreseeable
Released in 2013 but way ahead of its time, still holds up today. I think this was one of the first UK Bass tracks I ever heard, I used to religiously watch DJ EZ’s 3.5 hour Boiler Room back when I first started DJing and this track was a standout from the entire set for me. To this day I still play it out and it still gets a crazy reaction.
Another track I’m super proud of, I wanted to make this breakbeat kind of style for ages. With the help of AntsLive absolutely killing it on vocals – this came together really well and was a no brainer to put on the album, the low end on this tune absolutely rips on a system, one of those tracks you have to hear live.
From his first album this one has always been a personal favourite of mine. At the time this came out, no one was really making stuff like this – I just love the way he’s manipulated the vocal from "My Name Is" by Eminem. Another curveball track I play just after something vibes to give everyone a little pick me up.
I remember making this on a two hour flight somewhere last year. I gave myself a two hour timeframe to come up with something, and this is what came of it. A nice light hearted high energy banger – super repetitive but if done right definitely works, like the Armand Van Helden track. This track I usually play after something heavy so it kind of resets the vibe.
This is something I will always play out at every show, I just love the vibe of it so much and really makes a special moment in the dance. One of my personal favourites from salute.
This is the track that every single person has been spamming my DM’s for over summer, so grateful that it got an official release. Everyone knows the original for being such a classic anthem, so to be able to put my spin on it was insane. I usually play this towards the end of the set to wrap things up nicely.
