Schrotthagen Share 10 Tracks That Fuel Their Cinematic Sound

Cameron Holbrook
Blending orchestral grandeur with pulsing rave energy, Schrotthagen is the unlikely but unstoppable pairing of 28-year-old producer Giovanni Berg and 62-year-old award-winning film composer Dieter Schleip. Their collaboration was sparked when Giovanni overheard Dieter crafting techno for a nightclub scene in a film and instantly recognized something special. From there, Schrotthagen – and their signature “cinematic techno” sound – was born.
Their upcoming debut album, Nostalgie und Traurigkeit (out August 15 via their label, Schrott), is a poignant, emotionally rich sonic journey that channels the melancholy, tension, and beauty of our turbulent world. To celebrate, the duo has selected 10 cinematic tracks that inspire them – cuts that move beyond genre to tell vivid, emotional stories without words.
"With our band Schrotthagen, we want to tell stories on the dance floor without pictures. We selected these songs as inspiration because they embody uniqueness and courage to explore new emotional landscapes. As film composers, we try to explore sounds that tell stories and evoke specific feelings. When we listen to these tracks, we can sense the ideas behind each piece of music, inspiring us, because they blend storytelling with beats and emotions. Our goal is to create an ecstatic atmosphere on the dance floor, where the people become the main characters in a shared, beautiful moment. Like being part of a movie. These songs remind us of the power of connection, love, and the stories we create together on the dance floor." – Schrotthagen
