Mall Grab Drops his Debut Album, ‘What I Breathe’

Listen to Mall Grab’s debut 13-track album, What I Breathe — out now via Looking For Trouble.

A stalwart of the underground music scene, DJ/producer Mall Grab has dropped his highly-anticipated debut album, What I Breathe, via his Looking For Trouble imprint.

First rising to prominence back in 2015 during the lo-fi house boom, the Australian artist was quick to break free from being pigeonholed by this genre classification. Over the past seven years, Mall Grab has been serving up multifarious slices of raw dance floor heat on labels like Aus Music, Shall Not Fade, Salt Mines, and his now lauded Looking For Trouble and Steel City Dance Discs labels.

With the arrival of his first-ever album, Mall Grab stretches ever further beyond his comfort zone, adding new sounds and energies to his repertoire — inspired by the artist’s love and appreciation for genres such as hardcore, hip-hop, and pop. Inviting collaborators such as the lyrical grime champions D Double E and Novelist, the US punk band Turnstile’s lead singer Brendan Yates, and the rising queen of jungle Nia Archives to join on his album, What I Breathe is a sweeping demonstration of an artist whose dance music versatility continues to blossom. Listen below.

Speaking on the album, Mall Grab explains: “I have been lucky enough to work with some of my favourite artists which have really been the glue that keeps the project coherent. There are a lot of familiar sounds on this album that my listeners and followers have become accustomed to and joined me in the deep dive. Elements of emotional but hard and pumping club music are intertwined with house, jungle, rave and grime. My adopted home city of London has been a huge inspiration to how my music has evolved and progressed, and on What I Breathe, I wanted to create a body of work which not only had something for everyone who has been with me the past six years, but also those who aren’t yet aware of what I’m about or the music I make.”

Mall Grab’s debut album, What I Breathe, is out now via Looking For Trouble. Buy it on Beatport.
