5 Online Sets That Capture Tbilisi’s Vital Techno Scene

We’ve handpicked and unpacked five incredible DJ sets available online, recorded at the best clubs and parties in Tbilisi.

Bassiani invites VRIL [live] / Podcast #50

For its invites series, Bassiani shares this extra-special mix from Germany’s Vril. The Dystopian affiliate was supposed to perform at the club in May 2018. However, that party was cancelled when the club was infamously raided by police. Vril came back for a New Year’s Day 2019 performance, and made sure the show was worth waiting for.

Nicole | Boiler Room x Bassiani

In this very special performance, local Tbilisi artist Nicole helps celebrate the reopening of Bassiani after the famed Georgian institution was publicly shut down by government authorities. Nicole is a Cafe-Gallery resident and promoter, and here she weaves deeply emotional techno from artists like Birth Of Frequency, Surgeon, DJ Deep and Mark Broom for a stirring, celebratory mix from inside the massive concrete club.

Regal @ KHIDI (Last Hour)

Along with Bassiani, Tbilisi club KHIDI is one of the most important spaces for electronic music in the Georgia. It is massive, dark and concrete — the perfect venue for Madrid DJ and producer Regal, who weaves high-octane techno, acid and electro in this set, taken from the last hour of his three hour performance there.

Voxnox Podcast 013 – OTHR (KHIDI, Tbilisi Closing)

Showcasing Georgian producer Ladouka Ninua’s recent techno project, OTHR, German imprint Voxnox shares an hourlong mix, recorded live from KHIDI, with the KHIDI resident closing the club. The mix begins with echoed, ominous ambient sounds before slowly creeping into atmospheric techno. It picks up from there, gliding along with hair-raising rhythms and icey melodies. Top stuff.

 YT – Cafe-Gallery

Along with Bassiani, Cafe-Gallery was forced shut by Georgian authorities in last year’s raid. It’s an important local venue, and here, resident skyra, who also plays as YT, weaves an eclectic, adventurous mix that begins with dusty, dreamy ambient before traversing into dub techno techno and luscious deep house. Skyra will play next at Cafe-Gallery on January 12th with Marco Shuttle and Nicole.
