One of Four Tet’s most coveted track IDs has finally seen the light of day. “Into Dust (Still Fading),” a stirring rework of Mazzy Star’s 1993 dream pop classic, is now officially out via XL Recordings – and yes, it’s just as beautiful as fans remember and hoped for.
Over the past two years, the track has made frequent appearances in Four Tet’s sets, from The Forum in LA to Portola, Sziget, and a stunning Lot Radio session. It’s also been heard in the mixes of Jamie xx and Floating Points, often dropped as a moment of pure introspection on the dance floor. Bootleg rips have circulated widely on YouTube, Instagram, and SoundCloud, fueling anticipation for its release. Listen below.
The new version keeps Mazzy Star’s haunting vocals and melody front and center, while layering Four Tet’s signature percussion and shimmering synth work underneath. The result is a tender, heart-swelling roller – equally suited for late-night dance floors and headphone listening.
“Into Dust (Still Fading)” follows Four Tet’s recent collaborations “In My Dreams” with Ellie Goulding and “Talk To Me” with Champion and Skrillex. It also marks his return to XL Recordings, his first release on the label since 2020’s Her Revolution / His Rope with Thom Yorke and Burial.
