After years of bouncing beats across continents, the hotly-tipped Australian-American duo X & Ivy are finally dropping their first proper EP – and it absolutely slaps. Out now via DJ Tennis' lauded Life and Death imprint, What Is This Sound packs two heavy-hitting tracks, “Bust It” and the title cut, built for sweaty dance floors and heads who like their club music rough around the edges.
Taking sonic cues from the sounds of early Chicago house, Detroit techno, Miami bass and ‘90s UK rave – with a splashes of acid and garage textures mixed throughout – the duo’s raw, no-frills style keeps one thing in mind above all else... the groove. “We try to stop before the soul gets over-polished,” they say – and you can hear it. Listen below.
This one's already getting serious love on the dance floor from beloved selectors like Jennifer Loveless, Roza Terenzi, Azzecca, Bradley Zero, Sally C, Chris Stussy, and label head DJ Tennis, who called the release an “instant sign.”
Following past releases on Big Trouble Records, Nervous Records and a phenomenal collaboration with the legendary Todd Edwards, the duo's raw, ravey, and ready to move sound continues to command attention, with big grinned dance floor compatriots scrambling for track IDs and asking themselves... What Is This Sound? It's X & Ivy, and they're turning up the heat.
