Beatportal Exclusive: A Fresh Chapter Opens: Deeper Purpose and GUZ Light the Fuse for The Cross Records
When two producers like Deeper Purpose and GUZ join forces, the result isn’t just another tech house heater—it’s a fully-formed, attitude-laced statement. Their new single “Don’t Waste My Time” doesn’t just straddle the line between club energy and radio-friendly sharpness—it charges across it, flag in hand.

What began as an instrumental sitting in Deeper Purpose's vaults took on new life when he sent it to GUZ, who had already been sculpting a vocal hook that oozed confidence and clarity. The track came together fast, but not without purpose—just the right tweaks, the right synths, and that undeniable hook.
“It wasn’t planned at all. Everything kind of just fell into place really organically,” says Deeper Purpose. “The song kind of dictates the direction it heads in as you add things in.”
And what a direction. Don’t Waste My Time has the bounce, the weight, the swagger—everything you’d expect from two artists who know exactly how to fill a room and grab attention. Deeper Purpose brings the bassline muscle and club groove finesse, while GUZ threads in vocal flair and precision polish.
“I do a lot of additional production on tracks that are nearly finished, so it was fun to do that on something we both had a hand in creating,” explains GUZ, whose ability to elevate a nearly-there banger into a certified weapon is well-known.
But this release isn't just a big track—it’s the first big track on the newly relaunched The Cross Records, and that adds a whole new layer of weight.
“It’s a great feeling when a label sees the potential in a track so much that they choose to relaunch with it,” says Deeper Purpose. “Also feels great hearing the vision for the label and them wanting us to be a big part in kicking things off.”
That label vision comes from The Cross, a name deeply intertwined with London nightlife legacy. With this relaunch, the imprint isn’t just trying to echo its past—it’s forging a bold new sound that balances experience with future-facing confidence. And who better to set that tone than these two?
There’s chemistry here, but also contrast. Deeper Purpose brings years of transatlantic touring and an evolving sonic identity, while GUZ, operating as a duo (yes, it’s Wouter and Freek), infuses each production with streamlined Dutch finesse and philosophy. The balance between underground grit and melodic sheen isn’t just a happy accident—it’s a reflection of where both artists are heading.
“For me, this track represents the direction I want my music to head in—club tracks that still hit outside of that space,” says Deeper Purpose.
“Catchy vocals and grooves has always been what I’m about,” adds GUZ.
The title might be Don’t Waste My Time, but everything about this release feels intentional. The lyrical hook—minimalist, confrontational, empowered—cuts through with the kind of clarity dance floors love and playlists crave. And while they admit the words weren’t autobiographical, the emotion behind them—the attitude—definitely is.
This isn't just another track for tech house playlists. It's the ignition key for a label reawakening and a nod to the state of dance music right now: more global, more daring, and more open to genre-blending and experimentation.
“Right now, the doors are wide open and people are really open to hearing new stuff they haven’t before,” says Deeper Purpose. “For artists, that’s amazing.”
So what’s next?
Deeper Purpose is dropping solo material on Catch & Release and IN 2 Deep, while GUZ has fresh heat lined up for Experts Only, and a summer release brewing on one of his favorite labels.
But first, this.
Don’t Waste My Time is more than a club record—it’s a marker in the sand. The launchpad for The Cross Records, and a flex from two artists at the top of their game.
Red-hot basslines.
Blue-sky ambition.
Let the new era begin.
