Calvin Harris and Clementine Douglas Bestow “Blessings”

Picture this: an endless European summer, rife with shimmering cerulean water, Aperol spritzes sweating with condensation, and slick house beats. Calvin Harris conjures this image and the breezy feeling it brings on “Blessings,” his second single of the year, following his country jaunt a la “SMOKE THE PAIN AWAY” in March. Fans who found the rugged, harmonica-laced number a little too leftfield for their tastes will rejoice to find the Scottish selector putting the “house” back in his wheelhouse on a track that suggests one should forget what their calendar says, for summer starts the second they press “play.” 

Of course, vocals from “the one & only” Clementine Douglas (as the song’s art reads) are the metaphorical cherry on top. Her supple, soulful topline adds self-confident emphasis to the one-off’s empowered lyrics, which tell a story about leaving an unfit lover in the past once and for all — no looking back, not this time. 

“Blessings” is sure to thrive in Harris’ sets at his Ushuaïa Ibiza double residency, where the very visual the song evokes will become a blissed-out reality for those making the trip to the White Island this year.
