Avis Vox has been on a transformative quest - one that blends music, identity and emotion into a singular visionary form. An electronic music producer, vocalist and live performer whose work brings melodic techno with elements of experimental electronica and striking visual performances together.

She began in 2008 as the front voice of an EDM project touring across Japan, France, Ukraine, China and India - captivating crowds with her stage presence and vocal depth. But by 2012, craving a more introspective sound, she ventured into downtempo as Loolacoma, exploring ambient textures and intimate sonic storytelling.

After nearly a decade of artistic exploration, 2022 marked her return to club music under the name that started it all: Avis Vox. This time, her focus was crystal clear - crafting a deeply personal and evolving take on melodic techno shaped by themes of identity, self-discovery and emotional depth.

Her music, often described as cinematic and heartfelt, has found a home on respected labels like Stil Vor Talent, Siona Records, Black Hole Recordings and her own imprint, Kalt Skin Records. With support from techno heavyweights like Amelie Lens, Solomun, David Guetta, Vintage Culture, Kevin de Vries, Innellea, Miss Monique and KAS:ST, Avis Vox is quickly becoming a name synonymous with emotional authenticity on the dance floor.

2024 has been a breakthrough year. Following her debut performances at iconic venues like Ritter Butzke and Watergate, she joined Innellea on his world tour, bringing her visceral energy to new stages. Her collaboration with ASY*S “Body Mind & Soul” soared through the charts - another milestone in an already rich and evolving career.

Let’s start with your unique live setup. How did this interesting idea of combining DJing and live vocals in your performances come to life? Who is Avis Vox?

Hi, thank you so much for inviting me to this interview! :)

The idea of creating a live show first came to life after my team and I recorded a video for the track “Back Me My Freedom”, where I performed live vocals and played parts on a drum machine and the Microfreak. The reaction on social media was incredibly positive and it made us realize that people are genuinely excited to experience this kind of performance in a live setting. It still feels fresh and unique which makes it even more exciting to bring to the stage.

Your current sound leans towards experimental electronic music, but melodic techno was not part of the beginning of your musical journey. Can you tell us more about your early days - what kind of music you were making and how your artistic direction evolved over the years?

That’s right - I've only recently arrived at the sound you can now hear in my latest track “Breaking Out”. For many years I was the vocalist in a trance project. Then, in 2012, I released a solo album in the slow electronic genre, followed by several soundtracks for films and TV series. Since 2022 I’ve relaunched Avis Vox within the techno scene, focusing mainly on melodic and peak-time techno, because that’s what resonates with me most deeply right now. There’s an energy in it that truly speaks to me.

In your opinion, does a modern DJ need to be more than just someone who spins tracks? What do you believe artists should bring to the stage beyond just playing great music and do you think that matters now more than it did before?

Absolutely! Today a DJ is much more than someone who simply plays music - they're a storyteller, an energy guide and a performer. People come not just to hear tracks, but to feel something unique and to connect on an emotional level. And when you're playing your own music, that connection can go even deeper through your sound, your lyrics and the personal story you share. That’s where the true bond happens. When it comes to modern tools like social media, I do believe artists should try to be more open with their audience. It can definitely push you out of your comfort zone-especially if you’re more introverted. It’s also a powerful way to build genuine connections and share your journey.

Since stepping into the world of DJing and production who has had the most significant impact on your career through their support? On a more personal note, who gave you the best piece of advice along the way?

That’s a really good question - it brings back some beautiful memories from the journey so far. 😊

First and foremost I received incredible support early on from ASY*S, as my debut melodic techno track was released on his label Fe Chrome. I’m also deeply grateful to Miss Monique, who continues to release my music on her label, Siona Records and regularly plays my tracks in her sets including iconic stages like Cercle, Awakenings, Time Warp, Brunch and more.

One of the most vivid and meaningful moments for me was hearing from the A&R at Stil Vor Talent, letting me know that my track “Under Water” would be included in their compilation. Later I had the honor of performing at their Label Party at the legendary Ritter Butzke club in Berlin, an unforgettable experience.

Another moment I’ll never forget was getting a notification on my phone that Kevin de Vries played my track “Find You” at Tomorrowland. That gave me literal chills.

And of course I’m incredibly thankful to Innellea, who invited me to join several stops of ‘The Beginning’ Album Live Tour across different countries. That’s how I got to know him and his amazing team and I’m lucky to continue working with them today.

One of the most recent highlights was seeing Solomun play my cover of “Block Rockin’ Beats” during the Anyma’s showcase at the Sphere in Las Vegas. That was a surreal and proud moment for me.

If you had to describe your music as a feeling, what would that be and why?

For me personally it’s freedom. It’s the one feeling I had been missing for a long time and only truly discovered after moving to Germany. I believe on a subconscious level that sense of freedom shaped the sound I create today, the meaning behind my lyrics and the emotional state I express through my music.

Your solo debut “Breaking Out” on Black Hole Recordings feels deeply personal. What’s the story behind the track? What were you breaking out from, or perhaps breaking into?

The track “Breaking Out” is a powerful reminder of how important it is to listen to your inner voice and to give it the freedom to be heard. It’s a conversation with yourself, with that quiet part that’s been silent for far too long. At the same time it’s a call to action for anyone who feels they don’t yet have the strength to break free.

Do you think your audience will pick up on the deeper message within the track? What do you hope they will feel, think, or carry with them after hearing it?

I try not to wait for a full understanding of the concept I’ve envisioned. I believe it’s far more meaningful when the audience creates their own interpretations and associations. It’s like they add a new layer of soul to the music, deepening its impact and significance in our lives.

Let’s talk about the creative process. Every track has a unique journey. Was “Breaking Out” made differently than your previous projects? Any particular techniques, tools, or creative breakthroughs that defined this one?

This track carries a really special story. In December 2023 I released “Beast,” a track where I asked the listener some deep questions: “Who are you? A monster, a robot, a human, or a beast?” Even then I felt like the story wasn’t quite complete. That’s why “Breaking Out” became a conceptual continuation. In this track the main character can no longer suppress their inner voice - it demands to be heard.

From a technical side, I used one of my favorite synths again the MS-20V from Arturia, which also formed the backbone of “Beast”. This time though its sound feels more open and impulsive-mirroring the emotional shift of the story.

You’ve released your music on some impressive labels - Stil Vor Talent, Siona Records, and Black Hole Recordings, just to name a few. But two years ago, you launched your own imprint, Kalt Skin, which has since become a home for many of your releases, including a full album, "Skin," released last year. What guides your decision when choosing whether to pitch a track to an established label or release it independently through your own platform?

The release of my full-length album ‘Skin’ was actually the original concept behind starting my own label, the name of the label and the album naturally resonate with each other. One of the main reasons I choose to release on my own imprint is the creative and scheduling freedom it gives me. Waiting for a release on an established label can sometimes take six to eight months, but with Kalt Skin, I’m not bound by any deadlines or timelines. Also, many labels tend to follow specific stylistic boundaries, while I like to give myself the space to experiment. That kind of artistic flexibility isn’t always possible elsewhere, which makes my own label the perfect home for certain tracks.

Why did you feel Black Hole Recordings was the right label for “Breaking Out”? What made it stand out as the best platform for that particular release?

Black Hole Recordings is a label with which I have a long-standing relationship. Back in 2008 I released my first track as a vocalist with them. When it came to choosing a home for “Breaking Out”, what really stood out to me was how the Black Hole team operates. Honestly, not every major label invests the same level of effort into promoting a release the way they do. I’m truly happy to be working with them again, and I hope “Breaking Out” will resonate well with both the label’s loyal audience and new listeners.
