Chloe x Luke The One

Hey Chloé, congratulations on your Beatport #1 tune, “The One” (what an appropriate title)! How are you feeling, and have you had a chance to celebrate yet?

I’ve not celebrated yet.  I’ve been in the studio all week and getting very, very inspired to make more music. I honestly never thought I’d have a #1 Beatport record. I’m still in awe of all the love that this record has been getting everywhere!

You and Luke Alessi first dreamed up this track two years ago in your very first studio session after meeting for the first time in Ibiza. Please tell us more about this spontaneous studio link-up and how it's led to such a wonderful friendship & collaborative energy between you and Luke.

Luke and I originally met online and had been chatting for a while before finally planning a studio session in Ibiza. When he arrived, we ended up going out for four days straight—we didn’t even step into the studio. After a particularly wild night where we played at The Cave, we finally got into the studio the next day.

I looked at him and said, “We should probably make some music now,” and that’s when we made this track. It was actually the first track we ever made together, and in that moment, I felt like we had truly connected — not just personally, but creatively. There was a real alignment in how we approached making music. The very next day, we made "12 Inc Acid," which became our first release. Safe to say, Luke and I clicked from day one.

You got the legendary Jocelyn Brown to “re-sing” the vocals from the original 1984 tune “Somebody Else’s Guy” — a track which you’ve stated was a “go-to record” you would play when you first started DJing. How did this re-record of the vocals turn into a reality?

It’s been a whirlwind. Originally, the vocal we used was an old acappella I had on hand — just a placeholder, really. But after playing the track out, I realized that was the vocal we needed for the record.

Clearing it turned out to be really difficult, but we eventually found out that Jocelyn Brown had recorded a re-vocal of that exact song. We managed to get in touch, and she sent it over. Once we dropped it into the track, it was just magic. There were a few small differences from the original, but it still lifted the song in exactly the way it needed. Jocelyn Brown is an icon. It’s a dream to have her on a record — I’ve been a massive fan for years.

You’ve had an incredibly busy 2025 to date, with recent dates at Berghain/Panorama Bar, your SMiiLE Club event in LA, and an epic & rainy B4B session with Solomun, Mau P, and Four Tet at Ultra! Can you tell us about how that wild Miami set went down and what the experience was like?

That show was such a wild way to end my North and South American tour—completely unexpected. The festival let us play an extra hour because of the rain, and my set was a real rollercoaster, constantly being interrupted by the weather. When the opportunity came up for all of us to come together and close it out, it just felt surreal. We’re all such different artists, operating in totally different lanes, so to share the Ultra stage for the final moment of the festival was a major moment in my career.

Musically, it felt like we struck the perfect balance — each of us managed to pick tracks that somehow worked seamlessly together. It was such a fun and special experience, and one I’ll never forget. Especially going back-to-back with Four Tet, he’s an artist I’ve admired for so long, both as a DJ and a producer.

After launching your SMIILE Records imprint last year, how have things been developing with the label, and what are your hopes/plans for it moving forward?

It’s been an amazing process. I’ve always had a deep love for A&R and discovering new talent, and right now I’m being sent so many special demos — it’s genuinely exciting. There are a lot of emerging artists I’m really interested in working with and developing. It feels like a perfect time to be running a label. There’s so much energy and innovation happening in electronic music, and I’m grateful to be part of that, offering not just a platform for artists to release music, but a real community where we put everything we have behind the people we believe in. I’m really excited for what’s ahead for SMiiLE Records. We’ve got some very special releases lined up for this year and next, plus some really fun parties to close out the year.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

Honestly, I’m so excited to get back on the road this summer and play some of my favorite festivals — Glastonbury, Lost Village, and of course, returning to Circoloco. I can’t wait to hear "The One" being played out in so many different settings. It’s always such a special feeling. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with friends, meeting new people, and just having a really fun summer. That’s what it’s all about.
