Funkin Matt: “I love blending genres and inspirations, and I also enjoy surprising the listener—making them guess my next move. It starts out as a melodic house-style track, progressive and chill, then introduces percussion that hints at Afro house, before making a full U-turn into a looping, funky house groove. In the end, I felt that it made sense, almost like a CD I would burn with my favorite tracks—each one different, yet somehow fitting together.”
With MiniDisc, the Nostalgia EP reaches its grand finale. Alongside Tamagotchi, Super Soaker, and Perfect Dark, this release completes a journey through childhood memories and nostalgic feelings. Many big names in the industry seemingly resonated with this EP’s theme, given the support from names such as Oliver Heldens, Martin Garrix, Don Diablo, Nicky Romero, Blasterjaxx, R3HAB, Sam Feldt, Mike Williams, Lucas & Steve, DJs From Mars, and Jay Hardway.
Funkin Matt was inspired to create this track by the surreal, movie-like atmosphere he experienced while playing at Shambhala Festival. “This EP is inspired by that feeling: dreamy, airy, and free-flowing. Stylistically, it draws influences from the '90s and '00s, reimagined through a 2025 lens. Growing up in the '90s, I remember the magic of hearing groundbreaking tracks for the first time. While nothing can replace the songs that shaped you as a kid, this EP seeks to recapture that essence: pure nostalgia.”
