What inspired your upcoming release, and what makes it special?
This release was inspired by making my return to Dirty Bird, the moment I finished writing and recording the vocals I looked at Nick (Basura Boyz) and said “Dirty Bird”. I’m so excited to be back and it was an absolute pleasure working with Sage Armstrong and the Basura Boyz. This is a great record and I hope it’s well received.
Can you share a defining moment in your artistic journey that shaped who you are today?
My defining moment was in 1995 I had put out my first record in 1994 and I was playing basketball in my mom’s backyard and she said “you have a phone call” out of the window. I came in and it was Juan (Dj Sneaks brother) calling on behalf of Relief Records (GV’s Label) he was working there at the time, and he asked me if I wanted to dj at Ministry of Sound in London and do a Label tour with Green Velvet. My mouth dropped my heart pounded out of my chest. At that point I think I had only been on a plane a couple of times and I was blown away. At that moment I realized my work had been affirmed and I was on the correct path in life. I then started Farris Wheel Recordings in 1998, and the rest as they would say is history. Over a few hundred releases later and eight albums The journey continues..
What themes do you explore in your music, and why are they important to you?
I’m a child of disco at the end of the day this was the first genre I learned to dj, so my roots will always go back to that. I’m also a Star Wars and sci fi nerd so I can also get a bit galactic lol
What emotions do you want to illicit in your audience when they listen to your music?
Pure Joy and happiness and sense of something different and fresh, I don’t wanna sound like anyone.
What is your creative process like when writing new music? Do you have any rituals or routines?
I don’t have a ritual or routine at all when I’m writing songs, when it comes it comes to be honest. I’ve been make music since I was a teenager so I don’t stress about making music like a lot of the new guys do I guess. I know who I am as an artist so I know that I will make 20 tracks in a year and only 3-5 of them will come out ever. It’s part of the process of making art, I don’t get caught up in the charts.
What challenges have you faced as an artist, and how did you overcome them?
My challenge is only finding time to be artists because in a father first, I put in my Superman cape on the weekends and fly back home to my son.
What makes you stand out from other artists?
Longevity I believe make me stand out from the rest and consistency through generations.
What’s the weirdest food combination you enjoy?
Beef brisket with melted cheese yummmmm
What is a random hobby you enjoy outside music
Golfing, Bowling, competitive shooting
Anything else you would like to add?
Thanks so much to the Dirty Bird family for believing in this record I’m so happy to be back and I can’t wait to see everyone at Dirtybird Camp Out.
