The Beatportal Residency: Aus Music & Seb Wildblood

This month’s Beatportal Residency is dedicated to a label that has quietly but powerfully shaped the direction of underground electronic music for nearly two decades: Aus Music.

Founded in 2006 by Will Saul, Aus began as a more leftfield, genre-fluid counterpart to his earlier label, Simple Records. At a time when the UK’s club landscape was shifting — post-dubstep, pre-tech-house boom — Aus carved out space for artists who didn’t quite fit anywhere else. And in doing so, it became one of the most trusted homes for forward-thinking house and techno.

In the years since, Aus has been a launchpad for some of the scene’s most vital names: Joy Orbison, Bicep, Midland, Leon Vynehall, and Appleblim, to name just a few. Its catalogue spans deep house, garage, bass, techno, and everything in between — united not by genre, but by feel. The common thread is music with emotional weight, rhythmic depth, and staying power.

As the label approaches its 200th release and marks 20 years in the game, it shows no signs of slowing down. In 2024 alone, Aus delivered a strong run of EPs from artists like K-LONE, Cinthie, Dam Swindle, and Quantic — each bringing their own flavor to the label while staying true to its open, evolving spirit.

To celebrate the legacy and continued evolution of Aus, we’ve invited Will Saul and longtime affiliate Seb Wildblood to take over this month’s Beatportal Residency. Seb’s mix is a perfect reflection of the label’s ethos: deep, groove-led, and subtle in its shifts — balancing club energy with a sense of space and melody that’s distinctly Aus.

Whether you’ve been following Aus since the beginning or are just discovering it now, this mix is a reminder of what makes the label so enduring. It doesn’t chase trends. It sets them — slowly, steadily, and with unmistakable style.
