Pioneer DJ and AlphaTheta have released a new hour-long documentary entitled We Become One: The Power Of The Shared Musical Experience. The film follows DJ/producer/curator Kikelomo Oludemi as she investigates how human beings connect through music.

Throughout the film, she travels to various parts of the world including Berlin, Birmingham, Los Angeles, and Detroit to interview experts on topics such as music being a "universal language" and the neurological impact of music.

Some of the experts are artists including KiNK, Moodymann, and Seth Troxler. Troxler specifically discusses the connection he sees at Movement, the iconic festival that takes place in his home city of Detroit:

“The crowd of Movement is incredible. It’s this mix of Midwest ravers with European intellectuals and American musical elites. It’s all come together in this really raw environment.”

Another expert is Michael Spitzer, the author of The Musical Human, which dives into how human and musical evolution coincide:

“When we’re listening to music we are time traveling. We’re not concerned with concepts or with words but with something much more fundamental. We don’t get that from any of the other art forms. Not from painting or from literature, only music gives it to us.”

This is the third film AlphaTheta Documentaries has produced. The first was INSTA DJ back in 2019, which surveyed the role of social media in modern dance music. The next was The Evolution of Ibiza last year which dove into how the White Isle has changed alongside dance music culture.
