Pete Tong has announced a massive collaboration coming soon. It’s a cover of “Apocalypse,” the smash hit from the celebrated indie outfit, Cigarettes After Sex. The revered electronic cross-over artist, Monolink, the Afro House tastemaker, MoBlack, the Italian melodic talent, Max Zotti, and the BBC legend himself have come together for this new take on the modern classic.
“Big release incoming on MoBlack Records… I’ve teamed up with MoBlack, Max Zotti, and Monolink for 'Apocalypse,' a re-imagined version of Cigarettes After Sex’s haunting hit,” Tong wrote on Instagram.
With Monolink’s ghostly yet resonant voice as the centerpiece, the quartet of skilled producers creates a backdrop of music that balances glowing piano, ringing melodic synth lines, and an intentional, gripping drumbeat. In listening to the full production, it becomes clear these elements are the melodic dance music version of the loose guitar picking, subtle keyboard layers, and light-touch drums Cigarettes After Sex used in the original.
Pete Tong is currently gearing up for another run of his orchestral concert, Ibiza Classics, next month. Given this new track combines the dance realm with the live realm it’s very likely it will be included in the setlist.
“Apocalypse” by Pete Tong, Monolink, Max Zotti, and MoBlack will be out on April 11 via MoBlack Records. Preorder it on Beatport.
