Back to Their Club Roots

For Leftwing : Kody, 'Earthquake' is more than just another release – it’s a statement of intent. "We’d spent the last few years focusing on more song-based music," they explain. "But in late 2024, we had a chat and decided to get back to what we’re known for: club bangers."

This renewed focus takes them back to the stripped-back, groove-driven sound that put them on the map over a decade ago. Known for their crisp production and dynamic energy, the duo wanted to recapture that raw, underground essence. "We missed that connection to the dancefloor. With 'Earthquake,' we wanted to create something that hits you right in the chest."

Crafting 'Earthquake'

The track itself is a masterclass in tension and release. Built around a driving bassline and simple, punchy drums, 'Earthquake' keeps the groove locked while an electrifying vocal sample pushes the energy skyward.

"We kept the drums simple but relentless," they reveal. "The bass is really the heart of the track, and once we added the MC vocals, everything fell into place. It felt like the final piece of the puzzle."

The first time they road-tested it in a club, the reaction was immediate. "When the breakdown hits, there’s this build-up of tension you can feel across the room," they say. "And when the drop comes—it’s absolute chaos."

Finding the Right Home at REALM Records

Releasing on Gorgon City’s REALM Records felt like the perfect fit for 'Earthquake.' Leftwing : Kody have a longstanding relationship with the label and a shared understanding of what works on the dancefloor.

"Working with REALM is amazing because Gorgon City are so hands-on," they say. "They understand what DJs need because they’re DJs themselves. It’s a rare thing to have label heads who really get both sides of the process." That mutual respect allowed the track to evolve naturally while staying true to the duo’s creative vision.

Championing New Talent

Beyond their own releases, Leftwing : Kody remain committed to supporting the next generation of artists. Their KISS FM residency and their imprint, Lost Records, continue to provide a platform for emerging talent.

"We love helping new producers break through," they say. "We’ve played tracks from unsigned artists on our radio show, and some of those tunes have gone on to get signed. It’s such a buzz to be part of someone’s journey."

What’s Next for Leftwing : Kody?

As they return to their underground roots, Leftwing : Kody show no signs of slowing down. With more dancefloor-focused releases on the horizon, they’re doubling down on the sound that made them club staples in the first place.

"We’re focused on making music for the dancefloor again, but we won’t completely turn our backs on radio-friendly records," they tease. "We’ve also got an exciting release coming up with Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep label in 2025."

With a career that spans over a decade, 40 million streams on their breakout hit 'I Feel It,' and support from heavyweights like Carl Cox and Deadmau5, Leftwing : Kody are far from finished. And with 'Earthquake,' they’ve made one thing clear: the best is yet to come.
