WOMXN: A cross-continental community for women DJs
From Berlin to Mexico City, WOMXN's mission is to create balance within the music industry by highlighting women's work
WOMXN

WOMXN began in 2017 with a clear purpose: to balance representation in Mexico’s electronic music scene by putting female talent front and center. Founded by Adriana Roma, Renata Durán and Natalia Treviño after connecting at a DJ workshop, the project has since evolved into a dynamic platform spanning a record label, booking agency, event series, radio show and education program.
“We realized that women have to prove twice as much just to be seen,” says Adriana Roma. “We wanted to change that – to build something that made our community visible and supported each other's growth. That motivation hasn’t changed.”
Over the years, WOMXN has developed a reputation for its dedication to inclusivity, professionalism and genre diversity. The collective’s impact stretches beyond Mexico, with collaborations in Berlin and appearances across Latin America. At every step, their focus remains on creating opportunities for women, trans and non-binary artists in a music landscape that still skews heavily male.

With more than 30 events hosted in cities like Mexico City, Toluca and Puebla, WOMXN has built a thriving network of artists and audiences. Their label, WOMXN Records, launched in 2021 and has quickly gained traction for its carefully curated releases. Featuring producers such as Glomy, Konz and Luisa Houseworks, the label’s sound moves through house, breaks, downtempo, afro house, minimal and more.
The collective’s radio show, WOMXNIZED Radio, airs weekly on Depa Radio and serves as a platform for storytelling, experimentation and cultural exchange. Meanwhile, their SoundCloud series, WOMXNIZED Mixes, showcases a wide range of DJs – with more than 50 mixes to date from cisgender, trans and non-binary women across Latin America and beyond.

A recent highlight for Adriana was attending the Beatport Brunch, an event she describes as a powerful reminder of why WOMXN was founded:
“Seven years ago, our focus was on visibility and creating a supportive network. At the Beatport Brunch, it felt like a genuine and positive space for women to connect and relate to one another in ways that aren't often available. Being part of that shift reinforces why we started – and why we continue to push forward.”

WOMXN also shared some standout names who are currently making an impact on Beatport and beyond. Artists like Lauren Flax, Matisa, codenzi, Powder, Janesita, Konz, Ursula Prawn, and Adriana Roma each bring their own unique style to the table, pushing boundaries and offering fresh sounds in electronic music.
On the collective side, Krug Records, Daune Kollektiv, Algo Bien, Womandbass, and Femme in Boogie are not only expanding creative horizons but also building inclusive spaces that uplift underrepresented voices in the scene.
