Sven Väth has released a new compilation entitled, Retrospective Collection. As the name suggests, the 14 tracks take a look back throughout his decades-long career, from 90s house classics like “Face It” to early 00s minimal techno entries like “Cala Llonga,” even venturing into his ambient catalog via “Privado.”

Forever a supporter of fellow talents, Väth also loaded up the compilation with a series of well-known remixers. Adam Port added his signature worldly flavor to Väth’s historic melodic track, “Ritual Of Life.” Speedy J’s version of Väth’s progressive techno composition “Ballet Fusion” lives in the darkest depths of clubland, swapping light-touch beats with slamming kicks that reverberate off the walls.

Eric Prydz took Väth’s already haunting piece of music “Harlequin: The Beauty and The Beast,” and added an extra astronomical layer. His take leans even harder into the sci-fi aesthetic captured by the music video, which, in 1994, was an early experiment in computer-generated graphics.

Producing that video is one example of Väth’s innovation throughout his time in dance music. Coming up in Frankfurt, he was one of the first DJs to popularize Ibiza as a dance music destination back in the 80s after he visited for the first time. He also lived in Goa, India, in the 90s and became a pioneer of the style now known as Goa trance. Today he continues to innovate through his record label and event series, Cocoon.

Retrospective Collection from Sven Väth is out now via Cocoon Recordings. Purchase it exclusively on Beatport.
