Slamming techno EP PENTAPHONIA LAB Vol.1 is yet another exciting development in the rapid expansion of Gabry Ponte's PENTPAHONIA Records. The Italian titan first teased the EP 48 hours out from release with the launch of his PENTAPHONIA Presents DJ mix series and an exclusive hard techno set from the man himself. With an indefinite goal to bring impressionable techno to the masses, Gabry Ponte's PENTAPHONIA imprint is proving to attack 2025 with conviction. Having already signed with CERES, DJs From Mars and MOTVS in the first few months.

In what is shaping up to be a pivotal season for the record label, on the cusp of a breakout moment, we sat down with label boss Gabry Ponte to hear in his own words the vision and drive behind the PENTAPHONIA brand.

Let’s go right back to the start, what initially inspired you to launch PENTAPHONIA Records?

I have always loved techno music, and producing these records has brought me immense satisfaction over the years. I thrive on creating tracks with a dark, intense vibe—tracks that are perfect for clubs. But I needed a space where this side of me could truly come to life. That need turned into a strong desire, which ultimately drove me to found the label!

PENTAPHONIA champions a hard-hitting sound that some fans might automatically associate with your name, tell us, where did your love of techno originate? Who were your early influences in this space?

My passion for techno ignited almost instantly. The sound was so innovative and groundbreaking that I couldn’t help but be captivated from the very first listen. Techno has a rich and diverse history, shaped by influences from around the world—from the industrial roots of Detroit to the experimental sounds of Berlin. The genre merges countless cultural expressions, which have always been a source of inspiration for me. My early influences included artists like Richie Hawtin, John Acquaviva, pioneers who shaped the scene and inspired so many of us.

How hands-on are you in the A&R process for PENTAPHONIA? What are the rewards and challenges in this role?

I do a lot of A&R myself, much of my work revolves around listening to new music for my sets and DJ mixes—an ongoing, almost perpetual process. But it also gives me the opportunity to discover fresh, underrated, and brilliant artists. The greatest reward is finding an artist whose work truly resonates with me. And, of course, that’s also the greatest challenge.

So far, you’ve hosted epic names like DJs From Mars, CERES and T78 on the label. Are there any other big-name signees or collaborations on the way that you can tell us about?

The first EP features some artists from the ’90s hardstyle scene, with whom I collaborated for remixes of their own classics or for original tracks. I can say there are plenty of exciting new releases and collaborations on the horizon, but I won’t give too much away just yet! We’re working hard on a lot of exciting projects, and I can’t wait to share more with you soon!

PENTAPHONIA LAB Vol.1 is the latest release and debut label compilation curated by yourself. Talk us through how the EP came to be and your inspirations at the time of creation?

I spend a lot of time creating new tracks, and I’m really excited for the fans to hear what PENTAPHONIA has in store for them! These tracks have been sitting on my computer for a while, but I started playing them at gigs, and the audience’s reaction was always amazing—they kept asking for me to drop them! So, we decided to give them what they wanted and turn these tracks into a full project. This is just the first volume.

The EP features collaborations with Prezioso and Julian DJ, how did you come to work with these producers?

I’m proud to say that some of the guests on the EP are more than just colleagues—they’re friends. The collaborations came together naturally, which is what made them so special. It wasn’t just about making music; it was about having fun and creating something together.

There’s also a fire remix of Brooklyn Bounce’s 00s club hit ‘Bass, Beats & Melody’ on the compilation. What drew you to rework this track? Does the original hold any memories for you?

The original track is an absolute powerhouse. I’ve always loved its melody—so evocative and essential for any great club track. When it plays, it creates an incredible atmosphere, giving the record a truly unique aura. I have countless memories of playing it in my sets back in the days, and the energy it brings never gets old!

Would you ever consider throwing PENTAPHONIA parties? If so, what venues would be your dream dancefloors to takeover?

We’ve already kicked things off with our PENTAPHONIA Nights, fully focused on crafting an authentic underground experience. The lights, sound, and energy draw deep inspiration from the club culture I grew up in. Our goal is to create that raw, genuine connection between the crowd and the music—perfectly aligning with the vibe of PENTAPHONIA releases.

Where do you hope to see PENTAPHONIA Records in five years' time?

I see PENTAPHONIA as the ultimate space to showcase a diverse range of sounds—not just for myself, but for other artists as well. I want it to be a haven for those who push the envelope, ramp up the BPMs, and get people moving. And I believe this dream is about to become a reality.

Finally, for any techno-loving producers from the Beatportal community feeling inspired to reach out, are you open for demos? And how do they join in the PENTAPHONIA hype?

Absolutely! My team and I are always on the lookout for new talent and fresh sounds. The best way to get in on the PENTAPHONIA hype is by staying connected with us through our social media channels. Keep an eye on what’s coming up—who knows what the future holds!
