Funkin Matt releases Perfect Dark – A Bridge Between Past and Present

Funkin Matt is back with Perfect Dark, the latest release from his Nostalgia EP, dropping on March 21, 2025. As the project nears its conclusion, this track serves as both a throwback and a forward-thinking club anthem, blending deep grooves with cinematic energy.

A tribute to late-night gaming sessions and the magic of discovering new music as a kid, Perfect Dark channels nostalgia while pushing his signature sound even further. The track is a rhythm-heavy fusion of Afro house and massive synth work, embodying the pure energy of his early Dutch house influences.

“This is the heaviest track on the EP,” Funkin Matt explains. “Every percussion hit matters, and there’s no unnecessary fluff—just rhythm and power.”

With the final track, MiniDisc, set for release on April 11, the Nostalgia EP has already gained support from industry heavyweights like Oliver Heldens, Martin Garrix, and Don Diablo. The project was heavily inspired by Funkin Matt’s experience at Canada’s Shambhala Festival—an otherworldly rave deep in the woods, where lasers cut through the trees and thousands of people moved as one. “It felt surreal, like stepping into a dream,” he recalls.

Reimagining ‘90s and early ‘00s influences through a modern lens, Nostalgia captures the feeling of hearing a game-changing track for the first time. While you can never truly recreate the past, Funkin Matt brings its essence into the present with an EP that feels both familiar and fresh.
