Serum 2, the upgrade to the popular soft synth, Serum, is out now. Xfer Records released the first version back in 2014, and it has become a staple in electronic music production since then. Serum license owners can download the new version for free and for new purchasers the cost is currently $189. On June 1 it will increase to $249.

The first version of Serum was celebrated for its effective wavetable and modulation functions. The new version expands upon that with a full range of oscillators, which have their own dedicated section in the UI. These oscillators can manipulate samples, multi-samples, granular synthesis, and spectral synthesis. With all these tools, the already enormous range of sounds producers can create in Serum grows even larger.

Serum 2 also includes piano, guitar, and orchestral samples that streamline using the oscillators to add a realistic instrumental feel to the music.

Beyond synthesis, Serum 2 has a revamped effects section offering new options including a Bode frequency shifter and a convolution reverb. On top of this, there are new avenues for signal routing to expand upon how producers can use their previous favorite effects.

To celebrate the launch, Plugin Boutique is offering 100% off this Serum presets bundle. Use the code "uwd2nv9w" at checkout between now and March 31 to get these 128 presets completely free. Serum 1 presents are fully compatible with Serum 2.

“Grats to Steve Duda and the team on their release day! Serum 2 is out now, go get it at you know where. It’s pretty neat,” deadmau5 wrote on Instagram, referring to Steve Duda the inventor of Serum, and his collaborator on projects like WTF? and BSOD

deadmau5 is one of many esteemed artists who have used Serum in their productions along with Skrillex, David Guetta, Zedd, Martin Garrix, and Armin van Buuren.
