The XX are making music together again. A few days ago, the band posted a new photo from their official Instagram showing the three of them in a studio looking on at a music project in Logic Pro. The notably softspoken group shared the image with the simple caption: “Last week, in the studio.”
There have been other mentions of new music from the band members Romy, Oliver Sim, and Jamie xx in recent months. At the beginning of 2024, Romy told NME that it felt “wide open” to return to the studio with her bandmates. Furthermore, in the press cycle for his new album, In Waves, Jamie xx mentioned in several interviews that the band was adjusting to their shared dynamic as they began working on new things.
“The last few times we've been in the studio we've really just spent time talking with each other for days on end and barely even picked up our instruments,” Jamie xx told Grammy.com.
Well, according to the picture, it seems the band is now back to work with the instruments.
The last album from The xx was 2017’s I See You. Since then, all three members have released solo albums on Young.
Romy shared her dance-forward solo debut, Mid Air, in 2023. Oliver Sim ventured more into indie rock with his 2022 debut album, Hideous Bastard. Jamie xx was the last to release a solo work, putting out his sophomore album, In Waves, nine years after his GRAMMY-nominated debut, In Colour.
In Waves also included the track, “Waited All Night,” which was a collaboration between Jamie xx, Romy, and Sim. The xx are credited with a feature as well.
