LP Giobbi is continuing her mission to champion female, non-binary, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ people in dance music by announcing the Femmy Awards. Organized by Giobbi’s non-profit, FEMME HOUSE, a ceremony honoring the winners will take place on March 27 as a part of Miami Music Week.

These awards will acknowledge contributions to the culture through a variety of categories. Some focus specifically on music: Best Sound Designer, Best Album Or EP, Best Vocalist. Others shift attention towards further aspects of the industry: Best Club, Agent Of The Year, Most Diverse Festival.

There are also a select few community awards that are open to voting from the public: Breakthrough Artist, Best Underground Promoter, For The Culture, and Ableton Instructor of the Year. Further descriptions for each can be found on the ballot.

Winners for some of the awards have already been announced. DJ Lady D and DJ Minx will receive the Pioneer Award for their long histories of creating equality in dance music. The Voice of House Award will go to Crystal Waters and Barbara Tucker, both of whom have sung on dance tracks throughout decades. Finally, Sara Landry has been crowned Producer of the Year for being a “visionary producer who has demonstrated exceptional artistry, innovation, and impact in shaping the sound of modern dance music.”

“The Femmy Awards were created to celebrate the artists, executives, and industry leaders who are actively shaping a more inclusive future for dance music,” Femme House Executive Director Emily Bass says to Billboard.

Giobbi adds: “As an artist, I know firsthand how important it is to see yourself reflected in the industry — to have role models, mentors and a community that lifts you up. The Femmy Awards are our way of shining a light on those who are not only making incredible music but also creating opportunities for others to rise.”
