Hey Maurits, congratulations on scoring yet ANOTHER Beatport #1 with “The Less I Know The Better.” How are you celebrating?

I was celebrating by playing a show at Sphere in Las Vegas as support for Anyma. The whole team was at that show so it felt like a real family affair. Vibes were high.

It’s arrived, the official release of an edit that was uploaded to SoundCloud by some rouge fan, got millions of plays and has been sought-after for years now. Can you tell us about when you first put this edit together and started dropping it on the dance floor? Do you remember the first place you played it out?

I think the first time was either at Academy in LA or Club Space in Miami. The Soundcloud rip definitely came from my set at Space with the CO2 on the drop haha. I put this edit together because a friend of mine actually told me to. He thought it would really work so I just tried it for him and he was right. At first me and him would just listen to it together at home on the couch or play it at afterparties in Amsterdam for fun. Then I actually started playing it out at my shows and was mesmerized by the reactions.

What were your initial thoughts when you saw how people were reacting to it?

Well, first of all I was very grateful for my friend sharing his genius idea with me! Secondly, just seeing how happy it made everyone made me very happy. It became a secret weapon in my set that I could play somewhere towards the end to make it all a little euphoric. Everyone just starts chanting that bass riff when it slowly comes in for the first time. Then after that the drop just completely catches them off guard which is so much fun to witness.

What were some of the hurdles you had to overcome to make this official and get Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker’s stamp of approval?

Clearing samples can always take a lot of time so I mostly just had to be patient. I feel like everything was meant to be though. I’m so grateful the edit became such a big internet myth. People still talk about how they supposedly already had the song on their USB’s in high quality before anyone else.

How did you get linked up with the legendary Nervous Records for this release?

I actually reached out to them personally because I saw some records being released on their label before that definitely had some tough samples. I had already tried clearing "The Less I Know The Better" through various other routes, but Nervous just pulled through and did it. Love them!

You are no stranger to the overall top position in the Beatport Charts. Compared to previous Beatport #1 tracks like “BEATS FROM THE UNDERGROUND” and “Drugs From Amsterdam,” would you say this is one of your most anticipated tracks to date?

I don’t think any track I did beats the anticipation and momentum that "Drugs From Amsterdam" had, but this one definitely comes close!

You just played Sphere in Las Vegas. What are some words you would use to describe the experience?

Insane, overwhelming, huge, a little scary. I feel so grateful having been part of something so boundary pushing in our scene. I think Sphere is just the craziest audio visual experience the world has to offer right now. Definitely taking that one off the bucket-list.

What else does Mau P have in store for us in 2025? Anything you are really looking forward to in the coming months?

SO MUCH NEW MUSIC. I’m really in my prime right now creatively and with my workflow. I’m gonna be playing B2B’s with some of my heroes like Solomun, Seth Troxler, Adam Beyer, just to name a couple. I’m doing more of my own Baddest Behaviour events where we bring the craziest productions and all night long sets. I’m gonna be doing a residency with Baddest Behaviour at Pacha Ibiza every Wednesday starting this August. I’m playing Sahara Tent at Coachella during both weekends. I’m playing Awakenings, Exit, and Time Warp too, which have always been a dream of mine to play. I’m very happy with everything and super blessed with everyone listening and supporting my music. I can’t do this without you guys and can’t wait to see everyone around the world this year!
