Djrum has announced his next full-length album, Under Tangled Silence. This long player follows his 2024 EP, Meaning’s Edge, and it will be out on April 25 on Houndstooth. The record has been in the works since 2020, but according to the UK turntablist whose real name is Felix Manuel, due to “a catastrophic hard-drive meltdown,” he lost much of his progress.
Five years later, the project is ready for release, and Manuel is christening the announcement with a new single: “Three Foxes Chasing Each Other.” Harboring his master of erratic drums, he combines tribal toms with tuned percussion, creating a forward-moving soundscape that maintains a glistening melody.
This is the second single Manuel has shared from the album. The first is “A Tune for Us,” which came out back in January. He took a more subtle approach on that one, relying on graceful piano strides and light-touch syncopated drum patterns while atmospheric sounds such as bird calls fill the rest of the aural environment.
Manuel has said that the new album was inspired by a quote from the legendary punk rock artist, Patti Smith: “We go through life. We shed our skins. We become ourselves.”
