Beatportal Exclusive: Tommy Gold on Blending Music, Fashion, and Dancefloor Energy
From underground club nights to high-fashion soundtracks, Tommy Gold is redefining the intersection of music and culture. As he gears up for a major London residency and new collaborations, we dive into his genre-blurring journey, creative process, and what’s next for this rising tastemaker.

A Dual Presence in Music and Fashion
Tommy Gold is a name that resonates across both music and fashion, seamlessly blending the two worlds into a career that defies traditional boundaries. With an innate ability to curate cutting-edge sounds and a flair for setting the mood at exclusive events, Gold has carved out a unique space for himself. Whether it's his celebrated NTS show, his electrifying productions, or the cult-favorite Fajita Disco parties spanning London and NYC, his impact is undeniable. For Gold, music and fashion exist as separate yet complementary forces. “My journey started in music, but over time, I found myself being booked for fashion events,” he explains. Rather than seeing them as competing industries, he embraces how each adds balance to his work, allowing him to bring a fresh perspective to both scenes. His ability to navigate these two distinct spheres has made him a sought-after name in both underground and high-profile circles.
A Curator of Sound and Energy
Gold's presence on NTS has cemented his reputation as a tastemaker. His approach to selecting tracks is dynamic and constantly evolving, pulling from an eclectic range of sources—record stores, promo emails, deep YouTube dives—anything that leads him to something fresh and unexpected. “My approach is always about finding new sounds and keeping the selection as dynamic as possible.” He treats each episode as an opportunity to showcase new discoveries, crafting a listening experience that keeps his audience engaged and always craving more. His ability to unearth hidden gems has made his show a go-to destination for those looking to stay ahead of the curve in dance music. This curatorial skill extends to his own music as well, where he channels his influences into productions that are designed for the dancefloor, always high-energy and emotionally charged.
Influences and Collaborations
Having worked with major figures like Joy Orbison and Benji B, Gold credits these experiences as pivotal in shaping his artistic approach. He recalls that Joy Orbison was the artist who first got him into dance music as a teenager, and Benji B’s versatility as a DJ has long resonated with him. “Being able to work with both of them in any capacity has been an honor. Their influence continues to shape my taste and approach to music.” Collaboration, in general, is something that excites him most about music. Every project, he says, starts with a natural rapport—“I gravitate towards artists I connect with personally and then we build from there.” This organic approach has led to major moments in his catalog, including ‘Troubleshoot’ and ‘Canal Street Groove/Sex Appeal,’ tracks that showcase his ability to create high-energy, groove-driven records that command attention in the club.
Spontaneity in Production
His latest release, Clingfilm on Realm Records, is a testament to his spontaneous creative process. The track was conceived on the Gatwick Express, heading home from a gig—an impulse-driven burst of inspiration resulting in a high-energy piece with aggressive vocal chops and attitude to match. “I wanted to create something with attitude—high energy with aggressive vocal chops.” His relationship with Realm Records and Gorgon City came about naturally, starting through a personal connection with Matt from Gorgon City. “I initially sent him some demos for feedback, and he came back saying he wanted to sign Clingfilm to their label.” This ability to forge genuine connections has played a crucial role in Gold’s trajectory, allowing him to work with artists and labels that align with his vision.
In addition to Clingfilm, Gold has recently dropped his new single Do It Right, which was released on Friday. The accompanying B-side, Part of Me, will be available on March 14th—adding even more energy and anticipation to his growing catalog.
The Art of DJing
When it comes to DJing, Gold thrives on adaptability. Whether playing in the intimate setting of his own club nights or soundtracking some of the most exclusive fashion events, he approaches each set with a sense of purpose. “There’s nothing quite like playing my own nights—having a crowd that’s there purely for the music I’m creating and listening to at that moment,” he explains. But fashion events present a different kind of challenge, one that forces him to flex a different creative muscle. Both worlds demand a keen sense of energy and audience dynamics, something he has mastered over the years. His party series, Sugar Rush, which started as an intimate affair in London, has already built a strong reputation, and 2025 marks a new chapter with an expanded vision, including a four-date residency at Colour Factory in Hackney. “Now in 2025, we’re shifting our focus to larger spaces, with our newly announced four-date residency at Colour Factory in Hackney.”
Unforgettable Performances
Among the many highlights of his career, one standout moment was his performance at Sunny Hill Festival in Kosovo. The experience was chaotic from start to finish, with a last-minute scramble to catch his flight, but the payoff was stepping onto the stage to play for over 15,000 people—a surreal and unforgettable moment. “The chaos of almost missing my flight, the last-minute scramble to get there on time, and then stepping onto the stage to play for over 15,000+ people, it was a wild experience from start to finish.” It’s these high-adrenaline experiences that fuel his passion for live performance, where the connection between artist and audience is at its most electric.
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, Gold is working on a UK-focused project, collaborating with artists and communities from his background. While he keeps the details under wraps, it's clear that this project holds deep personal significance for him. “I can’t say too much yet, but it’s something I’m really excited about.” As for future aspirations, he harbors a secret dream of breaking into film one day, though for now, music remains his primary focus. “I do have a secret dream of breaking into film one day—but for now, my focus remains on music.” When asked about his dream collaboration, he names Cajmere without hesitation, citing his long-standing admiration for the legendary producer and the profound influence his music has had on him and his friends since they were growing up. “It would have to be Cajmere. He’s been a favorite of mine and my friends since we were growing up, and his influence is undeniable.”
The Legacy of Tommy Gold
Tommy Gold is an artist who refuses to be confined to a single lane. Whether through his music, DJ sets, or cultural influence, he continues to push boundaries and shape the future of dance music in his own way. With an ever-evolving creative vision and an instinct for discovering the next big thing, his journey is one that promises to keep unfolding in exciting, unexpected directions.
