Nick Curly on His New EP, Cécille’s Future, and Bringing the Ibiza Vibe to 2025

Nick Curly has long been a key figure in house and techno, with his labels Cécille and 8Bit shaping the underground scene for years. Fresh off a month-long tour spanning multiple continents, Curly sits down with Beatportal to talk about his latest release, We Luv, the evolution of Cécille, and what’s next for him in 2025.

Hey Nick, welcome to Beatportal! Great to have you here. How’s your day going, and what’s been keeping you busy lately?

Hey, thanks for having me here! My day is going great so far, I took it quite easy today and went for a long walk with my dogs, as I just got back home yesterday from a month-long tour. It started in Tulum, then took me through North America, the Middle East, and finally, three shows in Chile last weekend.

It was an amazing four weeks, but of course, I need some time to settle back in at home. My dogs and family missed me, and I missed my daily routines, working out, and going for a swim.

Your new EP is led by the massive A-side track, “We Luv.” Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind the track and how the name came about?

The day before I started working on this track, someone sent me a video from Space in Ibiza (which is now Hï Ibiza). My friends and I used to go there every Sunday for the We Love Sundays party when we were on the island. Later on, I even became a resident at the club for the Kehakuma nights. When I saw the video and felt the vibe, I took that inspiration into the studio the next day.

This track, We Luv, captures that nostalgic, feel-good Ibiza vibe from back in the day, the kind that makes you want to dance and smile at the same time. I think I managed to bring that energy into the track.

Cécille has been a key player in the scene for years. What’s next for the label, and what direction are you and Marc Scholl looking to take it in?

Yes, Marc and I are still overwhelmed by the incredible feedback we’re receiving on the label. We do our best to carefully select demos and pick the right tracks for release—we’re always looking for that special groove. No boring music! For us, it’s important that we truly feel the music and create moments that bring people joy while listening.

We already have scheduled releases from Andrew Azara, our Dutch acts Rooleh and Leyo, as well as Easttown. Plus, some of our longtime friends like Reboot and Christian Burkhardt will also be part of our upcoming lineup. And, of course, there are a few surprises I can’t reveal just yet!

Are there any exciting new additions to the Cécille events team or fresh collaborations in the works?

As I mentioned in the last question, we’re focused on building a crew of young, talented artists, including our Dutch guys, as well as familiar names like Fleur, Reboot, and others you already know well.

We’re also planning and have confirmed our first label showcases, which will take us around the world. Additionally, we have a new member on our team, Brenda Bertolasa, who has joined as our Head of Events. We’re working hard to bring the label into clubs after receiving so many requests and high demand.

Beyond Cécille, do you have any upcoming releases—either on the label or with other imprints—that you can share with us?

Yes, I almost have music scheduled monthly from now on. It starts with the We Luv EP on Cécille, followed by a remix I did for Matt Joe’s famous Love Stream track. After that, I have a release on Moodchild and my own EP on my second imprint, 8Bit Records.
