‘An ice age is roughly a 100,000 year cycle that Earth has been repeating for at least 1 million years. I have been thinking about these cycles and the erasure/reset of life. When my grandmother died, I discovered lots of old photographs and handwritten documents, faded memories, a small window into my lineage. Ways of life, even since my birth, are changing at an increasing rate and many things are being lost or becoming extinct.
The term ‘Ice Age’ also relates to Japan’s Employment Ice Age, a period of time between mid 90’s and 00’s after the country’s 'Bubble Economy' collapsed and young graduates and the many who lost their jobs were unable to find stable sources of income. The generation affected during these ‘Lost Decades’ are referred to as the ‘Lost Generation’ or ‘Ice Age Generation’. I am part of this generation.
