Diversity + Parity Fund: Black House Radio's mission to celebrate Black artistry and the evolution of House Music
Paying homage to the past, present, and future of house music
Black House Radio

Black House Radio is a homecoming for Black DJs and Black sound, celebrating the past, present, and future of house music. Serving as both a bridge between generations and a guiding light for Black artistry, the platform preserves house music’s soulful legacy while embracing its evolution. Like a treasured family heirloom, Black House Radio honors the rhythms of the past while championing innovation, creating a welcoming space for all who share a passion for the essence and soul of house music.
One of the greatest challenges facing the Black house music community is the erasure of its contributions - both historically and in the present day. Despite being pioneers of the genre, Black artists often struggle for recognition in mainstream electronic music spaces. In addition to this lack of visibility, financial barriers, limited access to industry networks, and scarce performance opportunities continue to create obstacles. However, meaningful partnerships that address these challenges and provide tangible support can drive lasting change.

Since its inception, Black House Radio has sold out two major live events and established valuable partnerships through brand-aligned collaborations. It has also grown its digital presence organically, reaching an audience of over 80,000 YouTube subscribers.
In June 2024, Black House Radio launched its inaugural event, CHURCH, selling out the venue and establishing itself as a powerful force in the house music community. CHURCH was the first of its kind, blending deep reverence for traditional Black house music with the energy of communal celebration.

Additionally, Black House Radio hosted a Juneteenth pool party at the historic Black-owned Bath Residence in View Park, Los Angeles, further cementing its commitment to honoring Black cultural spaces.
Building on this success, Beatport will be supporting Black House Radio’s upcoming events for Black History Month in February and Black Music Month in June with their $15,000 grant from the Diversity + Parity Fund. These events will provide essential spaces to honor the cultural contributions of Black house DJs and highlight their often-overlooked yet enduring influence on contemporary electronic music.

As part of the initiatives funded by the Diversity + Parity Fund, Black House Radio hosted a pop-up at the brand-new Beatport HQ in the L.A. Arts District. The event featured opening words from founder, Michael Donte, a conversation with house DJs, followed by an afterparty. This pop-up served as a space to celebrate, reflect, and elevate Black house music and its impact on the communities we build. Led by London-born Chloëdees, the discussion featured artists; Juliet Mendoza, Terrell Brooke and DJ Naygod, exploring the roots, evolution, and influence of house music through each DJ’s unique perspective as a curator and cultural storyteller.
The conversation tackled thought-provoking questions about how Black house music shaped their curation, parties, or collectives, the challenges and triumphs of holding space, and the future of the movement. More than just a panel discussion, it was an opportunity to connect, inspire, and amplify the voices keeping the spirit of Black house music and dance alive.

House music is driven by both the DJs who infuse every set with passion and the fans who find joy on the dance floor - whether revisiting classic grooves or embracing new sonic landscapes. Black House Radio’s mission aligns with Beatport’s commitment to fostering a sustainable ecosystem that uplifts and supports Black artistry within electronic music.
For Black House Radio, success is not just about the number of events hosted or artists supported - it is about amplifying Black voices, celebrating Black artistry, and ensuring that house music’s origins and evolution remain at the forefront of the global electronic music scene.
