Skrillex just sent his email subscribers a new piece of original music. The track is called "Bibi's Tower.” Listen to it here.
Sitting at 67 seconds long, it’s not so much a full track as an experimental piece of audio. Several melodic sounds layer over each other including ethereal plucked strings, warm synths, and spacey keys. There are also a few effected vocal samples in there as well.
This email is the latest move from Skrillex (real name Sonny Moore) emphasizing his greater control over his career. In November of last year, he took to X to share his intention of going fully independent after his next project which would be his last with Atlantic Records.
“I’ve never felt more inspired and in lockstep with my intentions as an artist. As im nearing completion of my next work and my final project for Atlantic records I can’t help but feel very existential about it all,” Moore wrote.
More recently, Moore drew fans to his email list by posting a photo of a sign that read:
“If you like my music leave me your email at: Skrillex.com/FUS and I’ll send you some things.”
Those who signed up at that link received "Bibi's Tower.” Moore was also posting on X as he was sharing the song: letting his followers know he was going to send something “in the next hour”; and briefly sharing how the fires in LA affected his focus on making music before stating, “look out for my emails if you want the realest updates on my music. I’ll personally be handling this address.”
In the end, Moore sent two emails. One welcome email and the second with the track. According the email he was testing whether he could send mp3s:
“Just testing to see if I can send mp3s though here , let me know if it works !” he wrote.
This isn’t the first time Moore has given fans sudden new music. At the beginning of 2023, Moore surprise dropped his second and third artist albums: Quest for Fire and Don’t Get Too Close.
