David Jackson's music has always been about more than just beats—it's about capturing the spirit of the dance floor while weaving in personal memories and experiences. His latest two-track EP, released on SG Lewis' label Forever Days, marks a return to his club roots, showcasing a playful yet emotional sound that speaks directly to electronic music lovers.

As Jackson reflects on the creative process behind this release, it becomes clear how deeply personal this project is. From a life-changing trip to Japan to a renewed love for four-to-the-floor rhythms, the journey of this EP is filled with moments of inspiration, exploration, and creative growth.

A Sonic Journey from Japan to Winter Blues

The idea for Jackson's latest tracks took root during his first trip to Japan, a transformative experience that left a lasting impression on the artist. "I made the track just after my first trip to Japan," he recalls. "Naturally, I felt a bit down coming back to normal life, especially during winter, so I had to distract myself by making something nostalgic and fun." The vibrant club scene and intimate settings in Japan directly influenced the sound and feel of the release.

For Jackson, this project also represents a shift back to his roots as a producer. "I’ve been writing a lot of non-clubby music over the past few years, which I love," he explains. "But recently I’ve felt the strong need to kind of go back to my roots and make some four-to-the-floor stuff again." This move doesn't mean abandoning the emotional depth of his previous work; rather, it’s about finding ways to channel that same energy into music made for the club. "I think I want to keep trying to carve that space out—keeping the playful, weird, and emotional aspect of my non-club endeavors but translate it into a club setting."

Creative Freedom at Forever Days

When it came to finding a home for the EP, Jackson knew Forever Days was the right fit. "The mix of SG Lewis’ personal involvement, the fantastic releases on the label so far, their enthusiasm, and creative direction really make me super grateful to be part of the label," he says. "It’s also exciting to be part of the label in its early days. I can’t wait to hear what the future holds!"

Trance and Italo Disco have long shaped Jackson's sound, but he's careful not to limit himself creatively. "Trance and Italo disco have definitely left a big mark on my sound, especially through the euphoric, emotional, and nostalgic elements these genres embody," he notes. "While they provide a foundational influence, I don’t want to attach myself to those specific genres too much because there are so many exciting directions out there to be explored."

The Energy of Live Performances

As both a DJ and producer, Jackson understands the unique relationship between creating music in the studio and performing it live. "Producing is more of an introspective process," he explains. "It’s about crafting a narrative or an emotion that stands on its own. In contrast, DJing is about the immediate connection with the audience."

Ending his European tour with a back-to-back set alongside Mall Grab at FOLD on New Year's Eve was a defining moment for Jackson. "It really does [influence me], big time!" he says when asked how live performances feed into his productions. "I remember in 2020 during the pandemic I couldn’t write any club music for the life of me. It's the energy from those live settings that sparks new ideas and pushes me in new directions."

Reading the crowd during a set is something Jackson approaches instinctively. "I guess I just try to trust my intuition and not think about it too much," he shares. "Usually people seem to be having the most fun when I’m having the most fun."

The response to his latest tracks during live performances has been encouraging. "I remember playing the first track of the EP at FOLD in London on NYE and it being received really well!"

Looking to the Future

With this release on Forever Days, Jackson is optimistic about the next chapter of his career. "I think from here on out the only way is up!" he says confidently. He’s enthusiastic not only about the current EP but also about potential future projects with the label. "I’m just really excited to get this EP out there and even more so on such a fantastic and fresh label. As far as more projects go, I hope so!"

David Jackson's latest work is a testament to his evolving artistry—a blend of nostalgic elements, dance floor energy, and creative exploration. As he continues to push boundaries and stay true to his sound, one thing is certain: this is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for one of electronic music’s rising talents.
