Diversity + Parity Fund: Girls Make Beats creates opportunities for young female creators
The nonprofit organization empowers young women through education, including a dedicated mentorship program
Girls Make Beats

Girls Make Beats (GMB) is on a mission to transform the music industry by amplifying the voices of girls and women in music production, DJing, and audio engineering. Founded in 2012 by Tiffany Miranda – a trailblazing artist, producer, DJ and audio engineer – GMB was born out of the need to address gender disparities in the music industry. Miranda envisioned an organization that would break down barriers and provide young girls with a safe and empowering space to pursue their passion for music.
Over the years, GMB has evolved into a global movement with chapters in Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta and New York, serving girls across the nation and around the world. Through its programs, GMB provides access to cutting-edge equipment, mentorship from industry professionals and a welcoming community that fosters creativity and confidence.

GMB primarily works with girls from underserved communities who face significant barriers, including limited access to arts education and systemic inequities in creative industries. These communities are often brimming with talent and potential but lack the resources needed to thrive. By creating opportunities for these girls, GMB is helping to close the gap and ensure that their voices are represented in music.

With a $15,000 allocation from Beatport's Diversity + Parity Fund, GMB will further its mission to increase access to music education and opportunities for underserved communities. This initiative will fund 10 scholarships for girls aged 8–17 from underserved backgrounds, ensuring they can participate in transformative programs without financial barriers. The scholarships will provide hands-on music production and DJ training, mentorship from industry professionals, and access to state-of-the-art equipment to foster learning and creativity.
These scholarships are critical in creating opportunities for girls who might otherwise be excluded from music education due to systemic barriers. By providing resources and support, GMB ensures that more girls can explore and develop their talents in an industry that has long lacked diversity.

Girls Make Beats has built a reputation for driving meaningful change, having produced music for major campaigns, including Ford and Barbie, remixed tracks for global icons like Janet Jackson and partnered with Sony Music and Roc Nation to provide internships and job placements for members.
Through their work, organizations such as Girls Make Beats are contributing to the overall increase in representation of female music producers. The percentage of women in the field has grown from less than 3% in 2022 to over 6%, according to a 2024 study. This progress reflects GMB’s long-term impact on reshaping the industry and creating space for more diverse creative voices.

Looking ahead, Girls Make Beats has ambitious plans to grow its global presence, launch new chapters, and grow its programs to serve more aspiring young musicians. The upcoming Girls Make Beats Summit in 2025 is one such opportunity to unite industry leaders and celebrate the achievements of young creators.
The support from the Beatport Diversity + Parity Fund represents a vital investment in this vision. By providing girls with tools, mentorship and opportunities, GMB is paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive future.
