DROPPING THE ‘DEADWEIGHT’: MOSS & ROYBOY BRING HEAVY BEATS TO LIGHTEN THE LOAD
Bass-driven beats, boundary-pushing vocals, and a house party vibe that hits deeper than the drop.
Wadawurrung man and rising electronic producer Moss has joined forces with the enigmatic alt-hip hop duo ROYBOY for their explosive new track, ‘DEADWEIGHT’. Born from their collaboration during their triple j DIY Supergroup, ‘DEADWEIGHT’ is a perfect combo of Moss’ heavy bass-driven sound and ROYBOY’s boundary-pushing vocal experimentation. The track is an undeniable house party anthem while simultaneously tackling themes of mental health, self-reflection, and personal growth, capturing the energy of a late-night rager with a deeper message that lingers long after the beat drops.
Reflecting on the creation of ‘DEADWEIGHT’ Moss explains, “ROYBOY and I have been cooking on DEADWEIGHT since the triple j DIY Supergroup days and now we’re serving it up. From shadow work to overcoming self-doubt, we wanted to speak to mental health through a houseparty heater and encourage inner reflection while celebrating self-progress - all night and all day.” The track’s pulsating energy is as introspective as it is celebratory, making it a standout in Moss’ ever-evolving discography.
ROYBOY, an anonymous duo with a flair for breaking rules, sit at the intersection of alt-hip hop and experimental artistry. Their unmistakable vocal stylings move effortlessly between shadowy murmurs, razor-sharp precision, and frenzied chaos, creating an unsettling yet captivating sonic experience. United by a love for hip hop and a refusal to be constrained by conventional norms, ROYBOY's approach to music is as much about excitement and experimentation as it is about rejecting authority. Speaking on the collaboration, ROYBOY shares, “Moss had reached out to us to collaborate a few years back, and sent us a beat that immediately inspired us - he understood our vision and amplified it tenfold, and we can confirm it will send a house party nuts.”
First Nations electronic artist Moss has quickly made a name for himself in both the Australian and international music scenes, earning support from the likes of Marshmello, Yellow Claw, and Jauz.
