With a unique blend of discipline from his sporting days and a creative spark that never dims, Sopik has quickly carved out his place in the electronic music world.

In this exclusive Q&A, Sopik takes us through his path from sports to music, shares the inspiration behind his latest release on Verknipt Records, and gives us a sneak peek into what’s coming in 2025. From creating tracks mid-flight to gearing up for global tours, Sopik’s story is as inspiring as the music he produces.

What is your name + background information + fun fact about you and your act?

My name is Ihor. A fun fact about me is that I used to be a boxer and even competed for the Ukrainian Olympic national team. Balancing boxing training, school, and music production was an interesting challenge. Anytime when I had a free moment, I was always creating music—anywhere and everywhere. Although I achieved great results in sports, I eventually decided to fully dedicate my life to music. I felt a deeper connection with music, especially since I received so much support from incredible artists in the industry. Choosing music turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I’m truly grateful to myself for making that choice.

Why did you decide to release “Nemovlya & Ki” on Verknipt Records?

Releasing music on Verknipt Records was a dream come true. Verknipt is an amazing label with an incredible team behind it. They’re known for hosting some of the best and biggest events in the world, and most importantly, they operate as a close-knit, supportive family. The label also features incredible releases from so many talented artists.

I decided to send them a demo, and I was thrilled when they liked it. Their interest gave me the motivation to work even harder on new tracks. I’m already looking forward to creating more exciting projects for them and hope to collaborate with them again. A huge thank you to the entire Verknipt team for their support and dedication.

What was the most fun part of working on this two-tracker EP?

About 'Nemovlya'

As always, I tried to stay true to my signature style, combining a rolling bassline with various vocals. It may seem simple, but it carries a vibe—and vibe is one of the most important elements a track can have! I actually made this track while flying to Toronto. I started it on the plane and finished it at home. While the details of where I made it aren’t that important, it feels special to have created what I consider a dream track mid-flight.

About 'Ki'

This track holds deep emotional meaning for me because it was inspired by someone very important in my life. Like Nemovlya, it features a rolling bassline and prominent use of vocals throughout. However, this track carries an emotional aggression that evokes a strange, unexplainable feeling within me—and I absolutely love it!

What does 2025 look like in terms of events and new releases?

2025 is shaping up to be a massive year for my music. I’ll be releasing tracks with some major labels, experimenting with a mix of several genres while staying true to my signature style. Announcements about these releases will be made soon on my social media pages. I’m especially excited to return to labels like Hekate, Taapion, and Verknipt, and I’ll be putting in a lot of work to make that happen.

Additionally, there will be plenty of releases on my own label, Finder Records. I’m expanding my performances globally, sharing my music with audiences in places like Australia, South America, Canada, and, of course, Europe. Tours will be announced soon, along with a big reveal about a brand-new country where I’ll be playing for the first time. We’re just waiting on the visa to finalize the details.
