James Mac Breathes New Life into Summertime... Again)
Is this the song of the summer...?
I was watching this incredible film the other day - AMORES PERROS - if you haven't seen it...do yourself a favour....but anyways..there's this scene in the film where the main character was at his brother's funeral and he was asking his brother's wife why she hadn't run away with him when she had said she would as they had planned....
It's a long story but anyways...her response was as follows ;
"Want to make god laugh. Tell him your plans."
Which brings me to JAMES MAC. In the summer of 2023, he couldn't have known that his rendition of THE BOY IS MINE would not only top the Beatport charts - beating out the Keinemusik crew in both the afro and main charts - but then to go on to have a new lease of life over the summer of 2024 and be one of THE most played songs of the whole summer amassing 50 million plus streams on Spotify alone and still growing....
He also couldn't have foreseen just how big his beloved Afro House would become....but hey......he ain't complaining with shows all round the world flooding in...
And likewise....we weren't complaining.....when he sent us BREATHE - in the same way that BOY IS MINE did the job on the dancefloor but also pulled at the nostalgia of the 90s RnB era...well...BREATHE absolutely nails this brief in the same way.
And we down with that!!!
