Get Physical Music's classic re-release series continues with a gem from label co-founders M.A.N.D.Y.
'Jah' was first released in 2005 and comes with a Flashmob remix.
M.A.N.D.Y. were the powerhouse German pair that co-founded this label back in 2002 and very much defined the sound of the underground for the next 20+ years. They served up many classics in that time, not least 'Put Put Put' which was re-released back in May. Their dark and edgy take on house music gave rise to some seminal mix CDs and saw them play all over the world. Now, it is their single 'Jah,' which gets remastered here with a raw mix that is also included in the package. Since 2018, the M.A.N.D.Y. project has been the solo endeavour of founder member Patrick Bodmer.
First up, Italian Flashmob returns to this label after his remix of Samim's 'Heater' was reissued in August. He also runs his own self-titled label and brings real invention and big-room appeal to house and techno tunes on Defected, Hot Creations, and Snatch!. His version of 'Jah' is a tense one riddled with edgy synth lines and big raw hits as the mid-tempo drums march on. The arps never let up and are later joined by more cosmic keys to make for a real intergalactic trip.
M.A.N.D.Y's original is a powerful and all-consuming house monster with heavyweight kicks. The frazzled synths are full of drama as they endlessly loop and change shape in ways that forever keep you on your toes before a big drop means things kick onto another level at the mid-point. Lastly, the Raw version is more stripped-back and techno-leaning for late-night drama.
