Exclusive Interview
Beatportal: “Black Sun” marks your debut on Adam Beyer’s Truesoul. How does it feel to be part of such an iconic label family?
KASIA: It feels like stepping into another realm. Drumcode in March was a milestone, and now Truesoul feels like a soulful match. It’s not just about the label - it’s about aligning with a force pushing boundaries. It definitely feels like I’ve found my place in this galaxy of sound.
Beatportal: Your sound blends dark, energetic elements with melodic melancholy. What inspired the creation of “Black Sun”?
KASIA: It was about filling a void. I kept feeling like something was missing in my sets - a perfect balance of melody and raw darkness. “Black Sun” was born from that need. I spent a long time shaping it until it hit that sweet spot between melancholy and intensity, something I could drop when the mood needed a shift.
Beatportal: How would you describe the emotional journey that listeners can expect from “Black Sun”?
KASIA: I wanted “Black Sun” to be a journey between dark and beauty. The melodies represent those happy, uplifting moments in life, but they can lead us into darker places, just like life. Then it shifts back because life is never just one or the other - it’s always balancing between the two. That’s what I love most about music: it reflects that constant movement between light and dark, just like life does.
Beatportal: What was the production process like for “Black Sun”? Did you face any creative challenges while working on this track?
KASIA:I went through about 5-7 versions of “Black Sun,” so it took a while, haha. I was happy with the early versions, but playing it in my sets showed me what it still needed. I’d tweak it, test it, and tweak it again. In the end, I completely restructured it - changed the bassline and the arrangement, added new stabs - and now I’m fully satisfied. Whenever I play it, you’ll see that smile on my face saying, “finally“ haha.
Beatportal: You’ve recently contributed to Drumcode’s Elevate Vol. II all-female compilation. How has this experience shaped your artistic growth?
KASIA: Yeah, my track “No Tomorrow’” was featured in the all-female compilation Elevate Vol. II, which was a huge milestone for me. Drumcode has been a source of inspiration for me since the beginning of my journey, so being part of the label was really special. It’s definitely given me the confidence to push my boundaries in music production. While I’ve always loved melodic techno, this experience encouraged me to dive deeper into techno itself, exploring new directions and expanding my sound. This release has also opened the door for me to perform at Drumcode shows, which aligns perfectly with my artistic vision and growth.
Beatportal: You’ve performed at major festivals like Tomorrowland and Afterlife. How does performing live influence the way you approach producing music?
KASIA: Yeah, both Tomorrowland and Afterlife are amazing, and I’m really happy to be part of them. I actually just played for Tomorrowland in Dubai at Terra Solis, which was a great experience. I got to test my new track for the first time and see the feedback live. Playing at this kind of event really helps me connect with the crowd and see what resonates with them. Sometimes, as an artist, you might think a track will work perfectly on the dancefloor, but you really know only when you play it live. It’s an opportunity to test what’s working and what’s not, then head back to the studio and maybe tweak things based on that.
When I play at big events, I always try to deliver something special - something that hasn’t been released yet, so the audience gets that exclusive first listen. While producing, I definitely keep in mind sonic testing and what’s going to hit hardest on a big sound system. These events are incredibly inspiring and push me to be more creative. I also love hearing other DJs who play after me; their sets often inspire new ideas as well.
Beatportal: Truesoul is known for its balance between melodic and deep techno. How do you find the balance between creative exploration and maintaining your signature melodic sound on a label like this?
KASIA: I feel very comfortable blending both melodic and deep techno styles. I don’t limit myself to just one; instead, I enjoy incorporating elements of both in my music. My productions reflect my personality - soft yet confident, with a touch of assertiveness. I particularly appreciate combining harder sounds with melancholy moments, adding depth to the listening experience. Just as in human nature, where individuals embody various traits, I believe music is not strictly hard or soft. It’s about capturing the complexity and nuance of emotions in each piece.
Beatportal: Melodic techno is often described as emotive and introspective. How do you incorporate personal experiences and emotions into your music?
KASIA: I believe that music serves as a medium for artists to share their personal stories, conveying feelings and experiences. I often find it fascinating to analyze people based on the tracks they choose to play; asking someone for their favorite song reveals a lot about their mindset. While it may sound amusing, I often put my friends to this ‘test’!
For me, music is a profound expression of the self. It communicates aspects of our identities that require careful listening and interpretation. To answer your question, I create based on what I feel inside. My process isn’t about meticulously planning what sounds will be good or bad; it’s about resonating with what moves me. My hope as an artist is to connect with others who share similar feelings, creating a sense of unity through our experiences.
Beatportal: Black Sun has a thrilling energy and deep intensity. What kind of visual imagery or concepts come to mind when you think about this track?
KASIA: I see Black Sun as a reflection of the human experience—a beautiful and melancholic journey. It represents the cyclical nature of life, where we begin in a state of peace and innocence. As we transition into adolescence, our perceptions shift, and we undergo a process of deconstruction, often feeling fragmented. Yet, from this fragmentation arises the opportunity for rebirth as we continuously rebuild ourselves. This track embodies that path of life, illustrating how we can shatter and reassemble, ultimately emerging stronger and more whole.
Beatportal: As a Polish-born, Miami-based artist, how have your roots and your current environment influenced your sound?
KASIA: Travel has always been a significant part of my life. Having lived in about seven different countries and visited countless others, I have developed a deep desire to connect with diverse cultures. I seek not only to understand the experiences of people from various backgrounds but also to immerse myself in their energy. This exposure has broadened my mental horizons and inspired me to embrace a more open-minded perspective. Witnessing how people live in different environments and under varying circumstances has enriched my emotional palette, which I strive to convey through my music.
Beatportal: What’s next for you after Black Sun? Can we expect more releases or live performances in the near future?
KASIA: Absolutely! I recently completed an exciting remix of a classic trance record that I can’t wait to share. Additionally, I plan to release my “Envision” track, which the crowd has eagerly requested. My other track, ”Tunnel Vision”, is also ready for release.
I’m currently collaborating with several incredibly talented vocalists, which fuels my motivation to create even more music. So, you can definitely expect a lot of new material from me in the coming year!
