Skrillex, Four Tet, and Champion Join Forces on Bass-Fueled Single, “Talk To Me”

If Skrillex and Four Tet are involved it has to be good. Ever since the two have become a staple collaboration, dance music has been treated to a series of innovative and effective new releases, and their latest single “Talk To Me” is no exception. Especially because the UK garage titan Champion is involved as well.

Champion and Four Tet have a longstanding history. The former remixed “Kool FM” by the latter, a cut from Four Tet’s 2013 album, Beautiful Rewind. Four Tet and Champion first came together to work on this track in 2014 — which was originally called "Flipside" — but it had a sample that couldn’t be cleared, so the record was only pressed once for vinyl. Skrillex heard it, and the three played a show together in 2015. In 2023, the three met again to re-work "Flipside' into 'Talk To Me."

With Four Tet as the control group, working so well with both Skrillex and Champion, it’s only natural that when they come together the music will jive. “Talk To Me” jives, swings, and bounces. As everyone returns to clubs while outdoor events take a break for the season, this track will surely be a weapon many DJs employ. Listen below.

Right of the bat when the track starts, Skrillex and Four Tet’s contributions are laid bare. Four Tet handled the high-range drums, applying shaking rhythms with different taps and dings, and Skrillex took care of the rubbery synths. When the low-end enters a few moments later, it’s clear why Champion is named as such. His bass lines and kick drums grab attention and induce motion. They’re ever so simple but they’re also so full.

All in all, it’s a superior sonic foundation for the budding vocalist Naisha's spectral tones and punchy raps. The trio of producers could have easily released this one as an instrumental, but the vocals were that final touch to bring it home.
